Audacity Import
« on: November 12, 2013, »
Not sure where the problem is, trying to import Audacity files from Sean's site and doesn't seem to be importing right.  Looks like its importing the whole line instead of maybe just one column.  Any tips?

You can see the Audacity file in notepadd ++ in the back and then how it imports into Nutcracker.

For reference these are the files i'm downloading.

That file has multiple problems -
It did not have "Carraige Returns" at the end of each line
Each line began with spaces (that's a major fault)
The space between numbers should have been TABS but were spaces instead.

This made it LOOK just fine, but it couldn't import correctly.

I'm not sure when/where it lost its formatting, but it can be fixed manually. There's only 31 lines)

Here's a "fixed" version:

Ah ok.  Thank you very much now I know.  Tabs and returns.  Time to fix a couple others off his site.

In Notepad++, turn on View/Show Symbol/Show All Characters

it becomes very clear and easy to fix.  (but, that is the only one from Sean's page I've ever seen a problem with)

try the audacity files that are in the songs directory of the new installs
C:\Program Files (x86)\xLights\songs

i am no longer trying to support the web page versions.

every xlights download will have more and more marked up files in the songs directory

Hi Rick,

I'm a mac user myself and the best thing I've been able to do is use bootcamp and dual boot into Windows...the issue I have is I have only the 32bit version of win7 so I'm stuck with only 2GB of memory vs the 8 I have installed and I do run into memory issues frequently, but I've been able to manage a bit so far in this state.

Hopefully Dan can hack a fix for this though as I would like to do my editing with the native mac version. I'll try to help with the builds myself in the future, just November/December are going to be sequencing in my spare time and dang RFPs at work so won't be able to fire up the latest xcode and try to pull in something.

Thanks Ryan,

To be honest I normally use one of my windows computers for sequencing and setup. I just recently been trying to use my MBP (mid 2010) to sequence with.

Hi Sean,
my downloads are not creating a songs directory nor do I have the Program Files (86) directory.  My Xlights is in my regular program files directory.  How do I get the downloads to install the songs directory?
Thanks,

Sean - The README.songs should be named something with a txt file extension such as Songs-Readme.txt or SongSources.txt.  Double clicking on the file name as you have specified it brings up a dialog box that asks what program should be used to access the file.

If you are running 32bit Windows,  you won't have an "86" after program files

Ok, but when I open xlights folder within the regular program files there is still no songs folder.  How do I get those to install?
