Tree effect seems "choppy"
« on: November 17, 2013, »
I really like this effect, but it seems like while drawing the garland on the tree, it is very "choppy"...for lack of a better term.  It also "jumps" around.  I have done a quick video that shows what I am seeing.  Anyone else seeing this type of behavior?  I am using 3.2.7 but I think it was the same in older versions if I remember.

Thanks,
-Keith

It is a shockwave flash video.  I just drag and drop onto my web browser to play them.  Of course it has to be unzipped first.

Yep Plays on my work machine fine! That is very jerky and looks like it is turning the wrong channels at the wrong times.

the tree effect is not working the way i wanted. it is suppose to draw garlands, top row left to rig, second row right to left .etc.
i wanted it to look like garlands were being hung. it has been on my to do list to goback and fix it.

in order of priority for me
finish (20) 5m arches and mount on my fence
finish 200' of 1804 lights installed in pvc railing with c9 covers
complete single strand so i have effects for my 20 arches
other stuff

so i may get to it, i have 12 of the 20 arches built
(18) 10' pvc rails ready for drilling 540 holes and c9 covers

All this from someone who just a quad bypass and is supposed to be taking it "easier".  I think the word slowdown is not in Sean's vocabulary.  I am both thankful and scared by that.

OK, I thought that might be the case, I had just not seen or didn't remember that it was not working correctly.  Just wanted to make sure it was not just me or my setup.  Thanks for the clarification and the awesome software.

Looking forward to the single strand effects so I can finish my sequences as well.  I did my whole  megatree for a 4 minute song in 3-4 hours yesterday.  Would have taken me at least that long (probably much longer) with 4 single color light strings for each strand, but now the effects I can produce in the same amount of time (or less) is incredible.

BTW, I thought I remember from one of the tutorials that there was a repository for reporting bugs for xlighs/nutcracker.  Am I remembering that correctly and if so, where might it be?  I would use it for things like this so I don't bug everyone else.

Best regards,
-Keith

Sorry for derailing, but do you have any pictures of how you'll be mounting your c9s to pvc?

i am following the directions richm made here: You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login
he was following in the footsteps of dave pitts or did the original design. Take 1 16' split rail fence. i cut them to 10' and 6' at home depot using the molding saw. home depot wont cut the pvc on their saws because they say it dulls their blade. When i get home i ran the rails through my table saw splitting them in half length ways.

drill a 5/8" hole with a paddle bit. i then will use caulk to glue the covers to the pvc rails. later i will push the lights in from the bottom. i ordered 1804 lights that had special 15cm spacing (same price as regular lights)

i will have 180' lining the sidewalks and driveway
