There is nothing like seeing the lights work after you have completed soldering / assembling your first board.  I have never built anything from a kit before and now I have a dongle and two SSR4s.  Bill Learning programmed the chips for me and helped me test everything.  I kept watching for that mysterious smoke and it never came.  I love it.  Now on to my LEs once they arrive.

Besides the smiles on the faces of people who see your show, you're right!  There's nothing quite like the sense of accomplishment you feel after building these things.
