Say you have several controllers going. You want to add some lights in the back yard or side yard but do not want to change your sequence or profile.
controller 1 is 1-16
controller 2 is 17-31
etc....
Can you add one more and use like 10 through 26 even though you already have these channels being used on controllers 1 and 2?

If you repeat the channels again they will just do whatever the original channels are doing.
You would have to put the other expresses on a different network in order to get what you want to work.

I think that he means that he wants to add a controller without having to do any additional sequencing. One way is what he suggested and that will work, since each device just reads the dmx stream and only processes the channels that it is programmed to act on. The stream is unmodified by the controller. You could have 10 controllers all on channel 1, but what fun would that be?
I'm sure I will get corrected if I'm lying....

You can do this if you wish. As others have said, the DMX controllers do not modify the stream so if you have multiple controllers covering the same channels then they will do the same thing. If in your case you set an express to start channel 10 then it will do whatever you programmed channels 10 thru 26 to do along with the origional controllers.

I think some people use channel groups to accomplish this, you might do a search on that term.

Greetings,,,
It's like all the radio stations broadcasting on the am band. You can have multiple radios listening to the same station. Or you can tune some to listen to different stations, channels in the case of DMX.

OK. Thanks. Sounds like it will work just fine. I have a vacant lot beside me and was just wondering if I wanted to set up some lights on it but not have to change anything. I like Keith's explanation using the radio stations.
Thank you all.
