I've tried searching but could not come up with anything so I need some help. I have my smart strings working great out of the active hub. I hooked up my LE to the active hub but cannot get the channels to fire in either xlights or vixen and i have data lights on both setups. I have tried wireless and wired to the LE. My DMX is set for channels 1-512. the jumpers on the active hub are 1 for pixelnet, 1 for dmx. i know i must be doing something wrong so i would appreciate the help. Also, etherdongle is flashed for pixelnet.
thank you.

Your dongle is working or the smart strings wouldn't work. Do the LE's work in test mode? Did you set the start channels on the LE's between 1-512. I think there may be a terminate jumper on that board. If there is try it.

What is the start channel that the LE is set to?
-
When I had that problem on my first active hub I went back and reheated all the joints around the DMX out. Bingo, started working.
-
Starting channel on the LE is 1. I'll check the solder joints as well but I have very few if any solder issues.
Yes the channels cycle in test and I get light.
Terminate jumper is on for the LE.

Bad cat5 cable or crossover cat5 between active hub and LE?
-
I've used the same cable with SS. Is there any kind of configuration I'm missing? I'm assuming channel 1 should go to the LE with the jumpers in the right spot.

Chip on the hub flashed?

If you programmed the LE to use channel 1 as its start channel, your jumpers are in the right place. I think xlights has a way in the test section to output in all channels. You might try that in case your LE is set to some other channel. I don't use Vixen so can't help with that. You did say your smartstrings are working with the smarthub correctly right?

Chip on the hub flashed?
RJ
RJ is mentioning this because must also flash the DMX chip or you get no DMX.
sorry about the confusion - I should have looked but didn't want to go up on the roof. :(

Chip on the hub flashed?
RJ
RJ is mentioning this because there are TWO Pics on a Smart Hub - if you only flashed the Pixelnet chip, your Smart Strings will work but -
you must also flash the DMX chip. It is different (different firmware, different PIC chip)
Is that info in the wiki? I don't recall seeing documentation to flash two chips.
I've tested all channels in xlights. Pixel net is awesome.
-
I only see one pic in the photos in the wiki, and there is only one firmware listed.
-
There is only one pic and without it you get no DMX. You will notice that there is no chip on the passive hub since there is no provision for DMX out.
-
Try the following:
1. Check solder joints
2. Reflash PIC
3. Make sure the "wireless" jumper is on if your using a cable
4. Use Xlights with the ALL setting to see if you get any blinky
5. Consider getting s USB dongle OR Bobcat tester they are invaluable for testing DMX devices.
6. Report back your findings

Jim was right...reheated the solder joints around the DMX out jack and bingo...started working. Thanks a bunch.
