Title: Just wondering what SSC controller version

Hello,

I don't believe I saw this anywhere and was wondering what version the on-board SSC's will be at and if we will have the grouping option that SSC's ver3 and above have now?

It is the Ver 4 SSC and yes, it has grouping.

Do you think that the Zeus may also have a beefed up output to say handle 150 node strings?

Just wondering as I know the SSC's were only good for 120 node on the flex.

Zeus has the same 120 node limit as the SSC's.

The node limit was based on the the current carrying capability of CAT5 cable that the SSC's use between the hub and the controller.  Even though that is really not an issue here, since it uses the same firmware that the SSC Ver 4 uses, the same limit still applies.

Thanks guys, Yeah I knew it was limited for some reason and thought it might have been the SSC itself, didn't even think about the cat 5 cable  <fp.

The limit prevents you from running too much power (through the cat5) by accident, kind of built in protection from yourself.  It assumes your using the SS Nodes in the wiki, which have known power consumption specs.  If you use another type of node, your still limited to the 128.  Some of those use more power, so you still have to be careful.  For me, I stick with the wiki approved nodes only.

I think that was a great question since the Zeus does not utilize cat 5 pigtails so the cat5 current is a non issue unless you plan to use them.  That said, I trust RJ's design and I think it makes logical sense and is KISS to limit the Zeus to that of the SSCv4.  I have some single elements that are "split" by 2 SSCs and once programmed you would never know so I would suspect the same for a long string over 2 Zeus (edit) PORTS...  I was quite freaked out about it at the time but it works perfectly.

I don't think that you would need two Zeus controllers, just two ports on the same controller would work unless of course, you run out of ports on the one controller.
