RGB Color of Smart String vs Flex Strip
« on: February 14, 2012, »
First I would like to say this is not my equipment I'm testing with another DLA User sent me the stuff to test with and get my DMX Console with with PixelNet. So, here is my question if the SSC is programmed to channel 1 and I hoop up smart strings the get RGB colors for channels 1,2,3. If I hookup Flex Strip I get GRB colors for channels 1,2,3. Is this normal for Flex Strips?

You need to use the SS Utility program to set the device type.

RJ's program/SSC will change the RGB order so it works correctly for each.

Its in the wiki in the software section

I did reflash the SSC for Flex Strip but it did not make a difference, Is that a place to set the RGB color order?

The same config utility used to assign starting channel number is used to define the type of strings, and the order of the pixels on the string.

read the ss manual and you'll find it.

as far as the software you're writing, the actual colors Red, Green, and Blue  can be on any channel.

if i program the ssc to start on channel 1, then 1=red, 2=green, 3=blue
if i program the ssc to start on channel 2, then 2=red, 3=green, 4=blue

as long as I (the user) setup my equipment correctly with the config utility  the color order is corrected by the SSC.

And some software, like LSP 2.x ... also lets you set the RGB order to whatever you want.  I haven't used that ... I use the SSC as suggested above, and you just pick the SS item type and it sets the RGB order for you want programming the SSC.

I would think it would be best to not use colors in your program but to use generic color1, color2, color3 or allow for a user specified default of RGB, GBR, BRG, etc.  Look at the xlights tester.  I find it frustrating not to see the color name, but then again with Ricks color finder program it assumes RGB, but he starts at chan 1 by default and when I try to use, my colors are off.  If the default start channel is different than the one the user has picked then the colors will be off.
