I don't remember quite when it started, last year I think but ALL PICs now come UNprogrammed. I know I had to get a PIC Kit3 for last years Pixelet Coop.

assuming they aren't pre-existing programmed ssc's

but it's safe to say, anything in a coop, just treat like it's not programmed, and get yourself a pickit3.
I wont go into details of the why the pickit3 is important, there are many threads on here about it.

I guess it was not after I programmed it the DMX out started working. I programmed a USB Dongle for Pixelnet. Hooked it up to an SSC Active Hub, used the DMX out to my Aether II. and I all worked.

Thanks everyone for your help.

with a pickit3 and one of the adapter boards, it is doable without a computer once the multi program mode is setup (insert chip, press button, 3 secs later done), but it would still take a while :)

The thing is that in reality, it's a lot longer than 3 secs per chip.  When you add in the time to get the chip out of the blank holder, set it into the module, make sure that it is in correctly, run the program, remove the chip, place it in the programmed holder, get the next chip and start all over and taking the time not to mix up the programmed and not programmed chips and moving the containers arund as you complete each one and suddenly, we are way past the 3 scond mark.
If at first you don't succeed,
your not cut out for sky diving
