I haven't had a single problem with power (knock on wood) and I am using two of the same power supplies that RJ used last year and have a third for spare.

Running about 3/4 load, the battery boxes during the show are about room temperature.

As I said earler I do not have an extra pixelnet hub, would probably have tried that at least have something to swap out. I didn't put it on my high probability of failure because of it's simplicity.

Its on my order list for next year.

Could you use a couple of extra power supplies and just use a single rail off of each one plugged into the pixelnet hub?

ie.

PS1-----molex1 plug on hub + 20/24 pin atx plug

PS2-----molex2 plug on hub

PS3-----molex3 plug on hub
It's not about more, it's about enough.

I think that is a bad idea. Something about a floating ground and possible shock if you touch the power supplies

this was talked about before. using multiple power supplies on one hub was not to be used for the same reason as trying to use a multiple rail power supply.

Got a new supply and installed for tonight. Upped the current to 62Amps.

We will keep a close eye on it though.

Yes the hub just jumpers the power good signal just like a power supply tester does. It adds plenty of load on the 12v circuit and should keep any supply happy. The p/s do have safetys to them and if you pull too much or they get too hot they will shutdown and you have to power them off and power them back up to get them to come back on. At least most good ones do this.

One evening performance down and no shut downs.

The previous supply had a big fan and I never found the box overheated. Our weather has been an average of 60deg or less in the evening when the show is running.

Isn't the load on the 5v side?

This is a good thing.

No.
The strings/nodes/strips are all 12v.
5v powers the '485 chips and the 3.3v goes to the pic. Not sure what the 4 pixelnet distribution chips use. All together, the non 12v total is way less than an amp...

My guess is that your PS is rated at 52a peak and perhaps not continuous.

Diablotek is an economy brand, nothing personal ... but you buy for price point.

Is the supply 80 PLUS gold, bronze, silver rated ?  If so, thats a sign of a good supply, IMHO.

I would try a higher rated and better branded supply with at least the 80 plus rating.
