Title: Will this work?
Post by: frankr on November 13, 2012,
Hello all,

I wanted to check this layout with experts and get some opinions before I finish deploying it and spend hours troubleshooting.  For the record I have a pixelnet splitter in the coop that would make this less of a concern but not sure if that will be here/ or I will have the time to build it...

Anyways, attached is a picture of what I plan to deploy.  My concern is the leg of the distribution that goes active->passive->passive.

Any experts want to give me some opinions on this  ;D

are the passives the 4 port, or the 16port?

If it is the 4 port passive hubs, you are outside what we can say for sure. It might, it might not.

My advice to new folks is no - at least don't depend on this setup without testing with the actual length cords before you start putting things out.

These are all 16 ports. The daisy chained passive hubs are right next to each other so the cat 5 cable between them is 5-10'.  Even the Active hub that supplies them is right next to them.  The longest run is the final run from the second active hub to the final passive hub.

Assuming I get the splitter below is what the layout would be.

ok, since you're using 16 port passive hubs, both setups are fine.  just make sure to use the pixelnet inputs / outputs for your connections

Looks good to me. That's pretty much what I am doing!
