Can the GE G35 lights be used with the smart string controller if they are desoldered from their original controller?
-
Highly doubtful.

I think the chip sets are different. There is a hacker page where they talk about using a mini processing unit to run them kinda but not like the ssc. It would be nice if RAY could get his manfacturing up to the standard the ge lights are made to. RJ had talked about getting a US company to make the smart string lights......but we are really a small market to cater to.

There are a few different controllers for the GECE lights. One of the more popular is the E681 it is available at http://www.sandevices.com/ or via DIYC. I bought some in their last group buy but have not had time to get them built. The E680 and the E681 are both supported in LSP.

I have the 50 GE-35 light set. So your saying that I can cut the controller of the set then use the E681 to control the string?

That is correct. I have not got mine built yet. Not enough time for this year. But I plan to do just that for next year.

Thats interesting, do you know anyone else that has tried that controller on these lights. Would hate to kill the string with wrong controller and then loose $60.00 worth of a light set. I have not seen the 50 light set for sale this year.

Costco is/was selling the 50ct strands for $64.99.
There are several threads discussing their use on DIYC.
