thanks.  i don't know if I should be offended or thankful. :)

It was good info, and there are days that I am thankful to be living in the clouds with software.  but, it is also fun to chart new territories -- and having this group around as tour guides makes it fun.

thanks.

Sorry, didnt mean that is a bad way. Do you understand what pwm is?

Pulse-width modulation is a digital technique for varying the amount of power delivered to an electronic component. By adjusting the amount of power delivered to a motor or LED, the speed or brightness (respectively) can be controlled.

David Cook."How to Make a PWM Circuit without a Microcontroller"Robot Room,n.d.Web.8 Feb.2012.

no offense taken. :)

I've taken a cursory look at pwm, and constant current, and a few more terms that are passed around.
i know that i am no where near being able to apply this info.
i'd love to be able to design a board, and throw together a bunch of components, but realistically I don't think i'll ever find the time to do so.

what is more realistic is writing some software as drivers or control applications to drive the hardware.  i'm much more comfortable with compilers, object-oriented design, etc.

Yea most of us electronics people do not know how to make software, mainly hardware. I suck at computers in the software region.

i think dmcole uses this as his signature...

"The only thing more dangerous than a software engineer with a soldering iron
or a hardware engineer with a compiler is a liberal-arts major with either."

I've been a software guy primarily since I was ten. Thirty years. However,I started to get into home repair, etc. At one point, my aunts house was broken into while she was out of town. The lock busted straight through the frame of the door. I fixed it, then a police officer came by to check the work. Since it was my first door repair, he kicked it the , bounced back and asked what the heck I did. 6' of 1/8" thick aluminum angle lag screwed in with a dozen 6" long screws, and a notch for the dead bolt. Over engineering courtesy a software developer. :)

Atleast you can do that. Most computer nerds wouldnt know how to use a hammer unless it had computer keys attached to it lol

I am also a "computer nerd" and I built the stalls in my barn, ran the electric, installed the water lines, built the tack room. I also rebuilt and restored a 1952 John Deer model M tractor.
