There was an attempt to define a standard pin-out for the dumb string connectors:
http://www.diylightanimation.com/wiki/index.php?title=4_Conductor (http://www.diylightanimation.com/wiki/index.php?title=4_Conductor)
Also, there is a similar proposal for the SSC-to-smart string connectors:
http://www.diylightanimation.com/wiki/index.php?title=3_Conductor (http://www.diylightanimation.com/wiki/index.php?title=3_Conductor)
btw, the SSC-to-smart string info needs to be updated to reflect the alternative pin-out used by technicolor strings.

i thought it was some type of connector strip (similar to le's) or mating sonnector similar to ex/rx.

what is the wire size of the 4 core conductor? I bought several pieces from an aliexpress seller and they look small. The wire is probably 22-24.

I would use 20. 24 is definitely too small.
