Hoarding, addicted, or what?
« on: March 14, 2012, »
My wife was watching one of those hoarding shows when I walked through the room. Of course, she immediately pointed out that our back yard looks like hers except it's Christmas lights.

Ever been in the position that the harder you try to disagree about something the more you end up looking guilty?

It is very difficult to argue when you have a six man tent in your back yard filled with boxes and plastic containers holding Christmas decorations, lights, and extension cords. Especially when you also have a 1000 cu ft storage unit half filled with decorations and more in the attic and some in a car, oh, and in two bedrooms.

Stop? Are you serious? No, I'm not stopping! I just got into animation this past year after salivating over it for years, just acquired approximately an additional 15,000 lights, decorated for Valentine's, decorated for St Patrick's, and Easter is around the corner! No way I'm stopping!

I'm so far behind on my Easter plans too!

It's not so much the lights, it's hiding the costs and all the receipts  >:D

It's something like

HER:Oh' honey is that something new for your lights

ME: Ya

HER: Did that cost alot

ME: No I ordered it from China to keep the costs down

HER: What are they

ME: They are 16 LED Flexstrips

HER: How much did they cost

ME: Well I got a bulk order price since I ordered 16 in one go, that brought the price down to 10 dollars each

HER: Oh, that's quite alot of money, still it's only 160 dollars then

Then I rush to hide the on-line credit card receipt  <fp.

$10...  you know this will backfire, right? lol

Your Wife's Friend: I just can't believe the cost of christmas lights. I'm just not gonna decorate.

Your Wife: oh, well my husband can get them for only $10...

Your Wife's Friend: Really great! here's $20, tell him to get me 2!

I went through the whole discussion about how making rgbw from the dollar tree for less actually ended up costing us over double just for the lights ( four single light cords,a red, a green, a blue bulb, gas trying to find the dang cords, sales tax) compared to square LEDs, not to mention one express for four modules, vs one active hub for 80 x 16 channels ..... Wait, she jumped in .... Just how many in total ... Um 1,280 .... At $2 each, that's over $2,500 !!!!

Which is where we stalled... Because she knows once I get started I'm going to keep pushing until I max it out

My wife would probably just give them two, since I had ten of them anyway!

I feel your pain for storage which is a constant struggle for me also.  I need a bigger garage since I took most of my lights to the new storage shed and moved the things out of the spare bedroom to the garage.

If you need justification for your $160 purchase just throw in the "monthly bill" card as well as the make-up.

Why are you allowed to spend roughly $240 for feminine hygiene products a year and an additional $400+ on make-up.  Make-up is your "hobby", mine's lights!

Of course that only opens the gateway for about $700.

Gotta love the double standards though, eh?
