I am thinking about making a light show for my to-be gf on valentine's day in her bedroom..
Is this legit? http://digg.com/newsbar/topnews/How_to_make_a_computer_controlled_light_show_for_less_than_40
I don't have alot of money..hehe
Just a college student...dating a much older woman. haha
(she is into Prince..so I'll play it on We Will Rock You)
Any fun ideas about sequences?

I'd be surprised if you get many responses. For the most part, we use completely different electronics.
Valentines is only 3 weeks away, so you don't have time for our do-it-yourself approach on the hardware. You need either built and tested or an off the shelf kit. We don't do either here.
However, vixen is heavily used here... You can download vixen and start learning how to sequence right now, then connect up whatever hardware you can find when you get it (assuming that it is compatible with vixen).

i've built a parallel 12 controller.
12 relays 5V switching 120v@1A
12 "2222" transistors
parallel printer cord
12 extension cords
and you def need a inline fuse
wire, electrical tape, soldering iron, solder, and the largest project box from radio shack.
they are coil relays, so it's on/off no dimming, plus you'll hear little mechanical "clicks"
