Title: Behind...
Post by: zwiller on February 01, 2012,
Hit the 50's in Ohio and finally got the last few pieces of last years display down.   <fp.

Anyone still have some work to do?

Sarcasm and razzing encouraged!   ;D

Put the last of my lights away today as well.  temp reached 72.  That's pretty good for NC on Feb 1st.

Boy do I have work to do. Just finished taking the yard and house front down on Sunday. Still stacked (thrown) in garage! Have not even started on my roof yet.  <fp. I hope to get everything down this weekend, then I can start putting in storage which will take at least 2 more weekends.  :o

Outside is done. Inside the tree is still up in all of its glory

I was done December 26th.

Of course we were out of town (vacation) so I took it all down before I left (not to rub it in).  To be fair, I live in a townhome, so my yard space is a postage stamp compared to y'alls! *smile*

I had my stuff down Dec 22nd :(

Had a last minute unplanned move. The worst part was I surely was going to win the decoration contest and win 100 bucks. The judging was the evening of the 22nd and I had my final out at 4 pm.

I too thought we were shoe-ins for first place and 100 buck card at Home Depot.  But alas, we got second place for the 3rd year in a row.  I know there is no one else doing blinky in my neighborhood.  Oh well.

Even with temps in the 50s and 60s my north-facing house still has a snow bank that has extension cords frozen under it.  So, I'm guessing I'll have to wait a little longer to get those out of my yard.  Other than that, my stuff is in storage - if you count storage bins on top of the dog kennels and a case of un-opened lights under the TV.

Now to build the stuff for next season...

I started taking stuff down on Jan 2. Finished taking everything down and almost everything up in the attic on Jan 8. Still doing LE and SS repair.

I was ultra motivated this year and had everything down by Jan 8th.  This is not the normal case, however.  Usually I have to get it all put away so I can mow the lawn for the first time in the spring.  <fp.

Finally got my spiral tree down last Saturday.  It's in the garage now (where it will live) on its cart.   Everything else is done!!!

Do you leave it assembled and wheel it into place, or does it come apart?

Just curious as to the best way to build store something like that is going to be.

I was also the only person in my neighborhood to do blinkyflashy, and I had people that I don't typically agree with in our hoa meetings tell me I should win, but alas, I didn't even get a mention.

Probably has something to do with my daughter's play house that was decorated with lights. The hoa president is a nasty bi*** who creates rules that she doesn't have the right to make, and I stand up to her. I laughed when they said I would win.

Ok, i'm sorry to say this but I'm glad to hear other people had the same experience.  My second year doing a display... the only animated display... first year of a contest... and I did not even place in the top 3.  There was nothing brighter in the subdivision.  Nothing musical.  No one else doing donations for a charity.  I was beaten by charlie brown blow-ups (1st place) and plywood cutouts (2nd place).

(misery loves company...)

I had multiple air blown decorations as well. The two largest had their lights timed to the music. The only complaints I received were the music isn't loud enough (have to be in front of display to hear and I put it up too soon (approximately two weeks after Christmas)

I agree though, it is nice to know I'm not the only one. I did make a bet that the president would change the rules to disqualify animated displays :/

But seriously guys.....do we REALLY do this to win first place?

Thought so.  We would do this even if they said we got LAST place for the worst lights in the neighborhood.

All I know is that I have met more neighbors and had more people come and tell me that our house is a major part of their Christmas and Halloween celebrations and they can't wait until next year's show!

Makes it all worth it.

Placing has nothing to do with it. I didn't even remember that they were holding a contest.

I do admit to getting a certain amount of satisfaction when the pres drives by slowly looking at the display then slams on her brakes when she sees the play house decked with lights. After a moment she took off much too quickly and left the street.

It was even more priceless when she was doing her annual "you've had your lights up too long" search (no, they can't make a rule about that either, but that doesn't stop her from mailing letters threatening to fine people) and realizes that I put up Valentine lights at the same time I took down the Christmas lights.

Yes, I leave it assembled and wheel into place.  It can come apart but would take 3-4 days to re-assemble each year (not worth it for me).

I took down my stuff by 1-10-2012. I put the window frames in my driveway behind the fence to take apart later. Last weekend I took them apart and fount the Frickrn squerals had chewed several white and green bulbs off the strings.  <md..
