Title: Heatsink tcefeD on LE Lucky Number 13
Post by: tlh on September 19, 2009,
After building 12 of 20 LEs, I had my assembly system down to a science.  Everything was running smoothly until I started that 13th one.  Now I am not a superstitious man, but there was something very unusual with the way that one came together.  After dropping a loosing a resistor (I guess it went to the land of the lost socks), failing to align sockets for the digital display, and almost putting the power transformer in upside down, I felt good about nearing the finishing line.  That's when I encountered the uniquely crafted heatsink (see Below).  I managed to finish the LE with another heatsink so all ended well.

I checked the remaining heatsinks, and they are all fine.  I don't have a drill press or tapping jig, so I am unsure whether to attempt to modify it.  Alternatively, RJ, should I send the defective heatsink to you to show to the mill that manufactured it (it was shipped in May with the 3rd LE Coop)?

Back to soldering...
Terry

You probably need to save that since it will become a very valuable thing in the future, kind of like misprinted money that was never supposed to get out of the mint or I have some model railroad cars that have mis-spelled words on them and they are now collectors items.  LOL

Greetings-
Suffice it to say that my Oh $#%& factor when really high when I read your post, Russ.  The dialog in my head went something like, "Backward...Backward?  No, no, no, the manual said that the holes should go down...all holes are round, right?"  Well, it turns out, I have FOURTEEN LEs with the terminal blocks in backward.  I've decided to turn the defective heatsink into the Homer Simpson Quality Assurance Award and nominate myself as a candidate.  I have a lot of desoldering to do.  Does anyone have any tips, suggestions, comments, testimonials?

No, Keith, "LYNX EXPRESS" is emblazoned on the one edge only.

Oh my Terry! Sorry to hear that on both problems.

Would you mail me the defective heatsink? I will paypal you the postage and send you a new one out right away. I will be out of town til the weekend so it will be that long before I can.

I should of let the other user with a defective one send it to me also. I want to show them to the machine shop to show them.

I think a heavy duty solder-sucker should be on your shopping list Terry.  Yikes!  I don't envy you that job   :'(

I am pleased to report that all 14 terminal blocks have been corrected!  Three more LE boards and thirteen (uh oh!) wireless receiver boards to populate...

Well done Terry!
