Title: Halloween - Gangnam Style video clip
Post by: peteandvanessa on October 02, 2012,
Here's my test run from last night of my Gangnam Style sequence

Running the sequence in the Light Show Pro 2.5 scheduler.

5000 Channels of LED Flexstrip via Laptop->Router->Etherdongle->Two 16 Port Active Hubs and also breaking out a single DMX universe for the Halloween singer and two light sticks via D-Light AC16 controllers converted to DMX:

Pretty neat and you have most of your lights up for Christmas now too.  What sequencer did you use?

Just ask and you shall receive:
I've created a drop box for the Light Show Pro 2.5 sequences:

The dropbox is located here:

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/jxo87lerfi200zv/8DUhg_7hCB?m

I will upload my sequences later today into the Public folder

I have also posted a short text document to the dropbox that gives a little detail on the sequences and the music that I used to sequence to e.g.:

There will be seven sequences that I will upload to the drop box.

The sequences are all in Light Show Pro 2.5 format and consist of
about 5000 channels of RGB Flexstrips and 2 x 16 channels of the
D-Light AC16 controllers converted to DMX format.

The most time consuming part of the sequences is sequencing the singers.
The main singer is on one of the AC controllers and uses five channels that control the face.
The channels for the singer are:

Channel   Channel controlled
1.            Upper Eyes
2.            Lower Eyes
3.            Big Mouth
4.            Lower Mouth
5.            OOh Mouth

The eight  backing singers are simpler and are controlled by eight channels of LED Flexstrip
called Pumpkin 1 to Pumpkin 8.

The songs can be downloaded from iTunes / Amazon etc, the songs I used for the sequences are:

1. Ghostbusters:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KvkKX035484

2. Wubbzy:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_A2YUwJmpU

3. Monster Mash:

4. You are a Pirate:

5. Somebody's Watching Me:

6. Russian Privjet:

7. PSY - Gang Nam Style:

I'm not planning on XMAS this year, it was 9 months of solid work to get it all working, so I need a break

There's an Etherdongle, two 16 Port Active Hubs and 25 Smart String controllers (mix of version 1 and 2), I fog machine and a three color DMX controlled Laser, and two D-Light AC16 Controllers (converted to DMX)
  <fp.

I used Light Show Pro 2.5, I did have some issues with the scheduler, but I managed to get around the bugs and issues with the S/W

I'm running the sequences every night until Halloween  :)

Did you use papagayo for the mouth sequencing or did you do it all by hand?

All done by hand, I probably have about 60 hours of work invested in programming this sequence and most of it was getting the singing sorted out  <fp.

Thanks for any info..

It's hand made. It's made out of a piece of peg board from Lowes. It's a 4ft x 4ft sheet. I marked the sheet where I wanted the lights to be and just drilled the pegboard holes slightly larger so I could push LED lights through the holes. Then I added hot glue to the LED lights on the back of the pegboard to keep them in place.
Sure easy to make and relatively low cost compared to buying an animated face.

Thanks - that is allot less mess than welding wireframes - Do you by chance have a daytime pic of the face - I would love to try and put one together and and more visual idea I have it might be easier.

Thanks again!!!

After Christmas till New Years Eve, I could see this song working. Last season I did "Johnny Jump Up" by Whiskey Galore, it was a hit!

This season, I'm hoping to have "Whiskey in a Jar" by 1916 ready to go and maybe "Red Solo Cup"

I find it kind of fun to get out of the normal, just for that short period till New Years.

ok, an idea i have if you're going to use this song...

you NEED to make the outline of the sunglasses, if you're gonna do this.
it would totally make the song.

I agree that between Christmas and NewYears is more of an end of year party time and the Christmas season is about over anyway, especially with the stores putting the stuff out before October.  When I see houses running non Christmas songs before the holiday, it appears to me that for them it is no longer about the season, te season simply becmes an excuse to set up a light show.

Not so far, but it's a little windy today, so we shall see.

The Power cords sort of help a bit to keep it in place.

Some of you have asked if I could convert the main singer into Light O Rama format.

I have stripped down the sequence so it is just the main singer and saved it to the drop box in LOR 2 Format.

I've uploaded it to my drop box located here:
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/jxo87lerfi200zv/8DUhg_7hCB?m

The file is called Gangnam Style Singer Only.lms

I hope you could help me, I am dying to get gangnam style going.

Ok here is what I had to do to clear up the timing error when opening Gangnam Style.
1. Open .lms file with notepad
2. Go to the bottom and look for the line that talks about track length <track totalCentiseconds="0">
3. Change "0" to "21900" (21900) is the length of the mp3 I had 3:39 seconds converted to centeseconds 219 seconds X   100 = 21900 centiseconds.
4. Now click save as and make sure you save it as all files instead of txt which is the default, and leave encoding at utf8
5. Name the file anything you want and add the .lms at the end.
6. Click save and open in LOR.

PM if you have any questions

All - I've uploaded the main singer sequences to the drop box in LOR format (take Matt's note above into account when trying to open the files in LOR)

5. Wubbzy

You can use xlights converter to go from Los to vix.

Thanks, I tried that and it seems to convert but in Vixen it opens and it looks like at blank sequence. And LOR2VIX gives errors even after fixing the timing setting to 21900...

Thanks Pete.  Did you mod any of the SSC?

There's about 24 SSC's out in the yard right now, NONE have been modified. About 16 of them are Version 1 (no issues with them at all), and another 8 are Version 2 (no issues with them either). The distance of the wires from the SSC and the LED Flexstrips is about 12-18 inches max.

The longest CAT5 run from the Hub to the SSC is 100 feet, again, no issues whatsoever

Im having an issue making these usable as a Vixen file, I tried LOR2VIX and xLights and neither work. I adjusted the timing as said, but it seem to have other timing issues. On each channel in LOR2VIX the Channel Effect Waring comes up saying: (on the Gangham Style Singer Only seq - lms)

WARNING on Channel 'Top Eyes #1'.
It appears that either startCenti 21468 and/or endCenti=113379 are outside of the specified timing of 21900.
Ignoring the rest of the channel effects.

Press OK to continue processing.

And it get the same error for each channel. the fails the conversion with this:

null
