This has 120 LEDS per meter for a spaciing of just over 1/4". 100 feet (33 meters) would total $583. They are supposed to be waterproof and glow like a neon tube.
I was thinking of making arches out of them. I understand the SSC can drive 120 rgb nodes so would i need one conrtoller for every meter?
thanks

Wow! That's a LOT of LEDs per meter!!! No Sean, The SSC can not drive those. There are no chips for the controller to communicate with the LEDs. If you want to make an arch out of that you would have to cut it every meter and add a plug for each segment and you could plug each segment into an Express or LOR or Animated Lighting or Renard or whatever other controller I am leaving out. So i could get 5 1 meter sections and use a Lynyx express for 5 segments, 3 lines for each 1 meter segment.?
I could use two Lynx Expresses a 7 meter length of this rope and divide it into 10 sections.
So 7 meters x 120 = 840 pixels.
10 sections would be 84 pixels per section. Each section would be driiven by 3 lines from a lynx express.
31 nodes for each r.g.b. If i assume 60 ma per node it means 1.8amps per line?
rather than me try to do this, how many controllers would i need to control a 7 meter arch?
thanks

Instead of a 110v 16-channel Lynx Express, maybe you want a 12v 16-channel MR16.
This will allow one common power source to feed 5 segments... the same power source could be used to run another MR16...
with the LE you'd need to have separate power transformers for each channel.

I think a flex strip in pex tubing would really do a great job achieving what you were originally trying to do... RGB neon like arches. Might not be as bright as 120/meter (still will be bright) but much cheaper and easier.

You may be right, i could also address every pixel in the arch individually.
i am still thinking. It is advantage that i have never had a display so can try different things.

Here is a test video I made using ¾†white PEX and 1†schedule 20 PVC. The PEX is at the top and the PVC is on the bottom. The bright spots are not really visible to the naked eye. I'm thinking of making an RGB arch or two using this method.

that looks like what i imagined.
cool
thanks

I do like Josh's idea for the arches. Really makes the strips stand out.

Thanks for posting I couldn't remember who came up with this idea. Not me... I'm the cottage cheese luminary dude ;D

Pretty sure it was Chris's idea.....

I like the way they look, but that noise they make would ruin my show :)

Not my original idea... I read about the the PVC here and wondered what PEX would look like.
