At this time there are 3 parts backordered at Mouser.
1. Ethernet connector 5520251-4
2. Oscillator ECS-2100AX-40.MHZ
3. Mosfet FQP27P06
It's like I am shopping for hot dogs and buns. Jameco has 2 but not Mosfet. Digikey has 2 but not Connector.
Tried the octopart site and cannot find the Oscillator anywhere.
I suppose I can get the parts from 2 places and pay the additional for shipping charges but these are parts under $4!
Any other suggestions??? Many thanks in advance!!!

Jameco has 2 but not Mosfet.
The solution, therefore, is to find a Mosfet at Jameco that will work.
I'm not an engineer (and don't even play one on TV), so I would appreciate it if greater minds than mine confirmed this, but it seems to me that Part No. 670485 would be an OK replacement.

Yo dmc,
I think you're on the right track. Thanks.
The parts are all available just not at one place. Oscillator was harder to find as I think the mfr# is somewhat proprietary and I am only 98% it's the right part. But the Jameco spec's out with Mouser part.
I believe the ethernet connector and oscillator is in stock at Jameco.
Connector here: https://www.jameco.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&langId=-1&catalogId=10001&productId=524251
Oscillator here: https://www.jameco.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&langId=-1&catalogId=10001&productId=325730
Direct match for the Mosfet available here: http://www.newark.com/fairchild-semiconductor/fqp27p06/transistor/dp/58K1524?CMP=AFC-SESB
OR substitute above?
I bet all of these parts can be substituted but they must spec out, but I am a noob. Perhaps the wiser folks will confirm this.
Passing this info on to anyone it may help.

The Jack can be replaced with mouser # 571-5520252-4 Only difference is it is keyed (does not matter but makes it a few cents more.)
The Clock can be replaced with mouser # 815-ACH-40-EK just a different manufactor.
The Tranisitor can be replaced with mouser # 512-FQP11P06 With no changes.
All which is in stock.

Thanks RJ.
The man has spoken. Good new for those of us scrambling to put a dongle together! Naturally, I freaked out and ordered parts from Jameco already...
Someday soon I wish to learn to understand the theory of how this kind of stuff works. I knew the mosfet was a part of an amplifer. But oscillator a clock? Interesting stuff.
Now it's time to line up a case
-
Sam, did you see this thread about cases?
http://diylightanimation.com/index.php?topic=1871.0
John
-
You can order a case for the dongle from Polycase. Wasn't really an option for me because shipping to me would have been higher than the cost of case itself.
Radio Shack has a project case that works pretty well but requires a lot of modification. I had it about 90% completed, then got a little carried away with the Dremel. :'(
RJ had an extra dongle case from the case coop that I was able to purchase. You might want to PM him and see if he has any left.
-
Thanks for the case ideas John and Night Owl.
I need both dongle and LE cases. I did shoot a PM to RJ and hope he's got a machined dongle case from the COOP leftover because I will spend 2 hours poking the perfect square holes in thing if I got to do it myself. I hear ya about the Dremel, been there, done that, and have a scar to prove it (AND I don't want to do it to my dongle case).
RE; blue ridge LE cases. I assume these are like cases from a defunct company that there selling cheaper. I will pick a couple of these up. Didn't realize until now how well thought out the case was. WOW
I am really starting to understand the beauty of the COOPS. Really makes it simple to get complete project parts and save money on shipping.
Next up is extension cord research time.
-
I knew the mosfet was a part of an amplifer. But oscillator a clock? Interesting stuff.
In this case, the mosfet is being used as a switch, to turn on the DC/DC converter that powers the isolated side of the circuit. The oscillator is used as a clock (it generates a square wave) for the processor. You need a reasonably accurate clock so the DMX data transmission rate is correct, otherwise whatever you are talking to won't be able to receive it.
While RJ doesn't publish the schematics for his boards, here's the schematic for a similar one - there are a number of differences (processor type, this one is bidirectional) but it will give you an idea what's going on.

The Clock can be replaced with mouser # 815-ACH-40-EK just a different manufactor.
I am putting this together now (finally - my first attempt). The manual indicates the black dot on the clock should be in the lower right corner, but the replacement part has no black dot. I assume the lower right corner of the replacement part is indicated by the writing on the part, but want to be sure. Can anyone confirm? If not, let me know the proper orientation. Thanks.

The data sheet shows a dot on it. But the pin #1 which is where the dot on the orginal is can be found by looking at the courners. There are three rounded ones and one sharp pointed one. The sharp pointed one is where the dot should be.

Thank you for the quick reply. I looked closely again and there is not dot, but the difference in corners is evident. Pin 1 is not the way I assumed.
Thanks again.
One other question...
When installing the USB module the manual states I should "not install a socket on this device: it must be soldered to the PCB directly. " I am not sure what this refers to. The module already has a USB socket on it.
-
The manual refers to not installing a socket for the whole module. You will see two rows of pins on the USB module these get soldered directly to the PCB.

As of today (1/8) the following parts are showing as backordered at Mouser:
579-PIC18F2450-I/SP
630-6N137-000E
NMR100C
This is what shows as being backordered when I click on the "project link" that is posted on the Dongle message board.
Anybody have any thoughts on subs?

I placed my mouser order yesterday... same a few items backordered... had them hold and ship complete order... should not be to long... still have to figure out a soldering iron... Dan
-
Maybe that is what I need to do. However patience is not one of my virtues...
I went to Newark.com and found everything but the resistors, capacitor and USB interface. I was able to cross reference the resistors (I think) but cannot find the other 2 items. I just hate to order bits and pieces from 2 or 3 different sources. Freight will end up costing more than the parts...

Thank you for the update - I did not pay attention to the expected date. I am a NOOB and have no components yet... ordered 6 express through the coop... those will keep me busy enough until the dongle parts are shipped... I know time is short, only 250 days to start setting up my display...

Does anyone know if this MOSFET will work: http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Fairchild-Semiconductor/FQP17P06/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMveMCOqFR6qCONQ83MiTyVK0cztCmOTbmU%3d
It's a little cheaper than the one RJ posted as an acceptable substitute and appears to have similar specs.
Thanks for the input.

Earlier in this post RJ notes a replacement as this unit. Maybe he will see this and respond again.

Just talked with Mouser and this is the chat for backordered items for those like me that are building their first dongle.
Please wait for a Web Chat Representative to respond.
You are now chatting with 'Dian'
Dian: Hello. How may I assist you?
jeff: need to check how long a few items will take that are saying backordered. they are 291-330-RC , 604-WP7104SRD/D , 580-MER1S0505SC , and 512-FQP27P06
Dian: 291-330-RC due to Mouser on 5/21/10
jeff: okay
Dian: 604-WP7104SRD/D due to Mouser on 5/24/10
jeff: good
Dian: 580-MER1S0505SC due to Mouser on 7/26/10
jeff: I yi yi
Dian: 512-FQP27P06 due to Mouser on 7/14/10
jeff: okay are there any parts on the shelf that are subsititutes
Dian: 291-330-RC we have 660-CF1/4CT52R331J with 17,879 in stock
jeff: okay thank you.. Have a great day!!

6 foot extension cords are still $0.77/ea. at Lowes
-
I'm in the same boat as freebird.
291-330-RC
580-MER1S0505SC
512-FQP27P06
604-WP7104SRD/D
All are back ordered
Are there any replacements or a way to cross these over to another parts supplier?
-
RDEbolt, I found 3 580-MER1SO505SC at Jameco Electronics and they have 1 left on stock. I also found the resistor 291-330-RC there with 1700 in stock. and the 604-WP7104SRD I beleive can be subsituted easy enough... Just can't find and MOSFETs ( FQP27P06 )..... :'( at least not until July.
Freebird
-
The resistor and LED are jellybean parts.
For 291-330-RC, 660-CF1/4CT52R331G should work
For 604-WP7104SRD/D, 604-WP7104SRD/F should work
According to RJ, you can use 512-FQP11P06 instead of 512-FQP27P06
That just leaves the dc-dc converter. Farnel has the NMR100C in the UK.
/mike
-
Cool Thanks.... I posted incorrectly I got the conve dc/dc 580-MER1s0505sc at digi-key part number 811-1566-5-ND
-
Thanks! I'm ordering now! ;D
-
Digikey is currently out of that (you must have got the last one), but they supposedly will be getting more 5/24 so that's not too bad.
/mike
-
Mike, I did get the last one. I ordered 2 and they only had 1, but the 24th of May is much better than the 26th of July!

Hey guys,
Anyone know of a replacement for the dc/dc converter (MER1s0505sc). I have tried to find one with no luck. Mouser will receive some in July. I have tried the overseas sites but their websites aren't working for me, let alone paying for shipping from there will cost more than the part. I called MuRata and they don't have a clue.
I did find an equivalent at mouser, only its two channel instead of one. 580-NMK0505SC
Any Ideas? I need four of them, I will do with one for now just so I can get up and running.

Thanks for the response,
I have checked everywhere and no one has it. Digi-key will get them first, but that's only a tentative date. They expect them to arrive by then. I called and talked with customer service. So I guess i'll have to sit and wait.

Mouser moved the date back another month on the DC/DC Converter. I did find another Converter that appears to be the same thing just manufactured by a different company. I did a comparison and they seem to be the same. If you guys could check it out and let me know if i'm correct that would be awesome.

I have 2 parts backordered at Mouser, the MER1S0505SC DC/DC converter and the 512-FQP27P06 MOSFET. Both show ship dates in July. I have searched unsuccessfully at Jameco, Digikey, Allied and Newark for these parts. Anyone else have any ideas or suggestions?

MER1S0505SC DC/DC converter or DigiKey 811-1566-5-ND. DigiKey shows ship date of 6/28/10. If you need this sooner and can not wait ( beleive me I know the feeling of wanting to get it done asap, like a kid waiting to open a christmas present) I can send you the spare I have. Just send me the one you get back in July. PM your address and I will ship it out.
For the Mosfet, RJ stated in this post " http://diylightanimation.com/index.php?topic=2027.0 " that part 512-FQP11P06 would work and Mouser has 316 in stock.

I ordered two of MER1S0505SC DC/DC converter from mouser as well and they keep moving the delivery date back. I ordered two of these (part No. 213313) from Jameco, the data sheets look the same as the MER1S0505SC DC/DC converter. If someone could confirm that this part can replace the original converter it would give us another option until mouser can get the others in.
Here's a link to the Jemaco part.

I spoke with Mouser today and changed the Mosfet part number. While doing this I realized that I actually have another part on backorder, the 291-470-RC carbon film resistors. They are supposed to be in stock on 6/16 so I guess I can wait another week...

I have a few of the 291-470-RC resistors if you need them now, same thing, when yours come in ship them back, PM your address and how many you need,

Has anyone been able to source the entire BOM from a single supplier without backorders?
-
I purchased all the stuff Mouser had and then purchased the rest through Jameco, if you read through the thread you'll find equivalent component replacements for just about everything that is back ordered at Mouser. But the answer to your question is more than likely no. mouser is the biggest supplier of electronic parts. Jameco, Allied and Newark are other companies that you can find the components at but they stock less than Mouser does.

If anyone is waiting on complete availability from one company, keep on waiting...
But if you don't mind doing 2 orders, Mouser has all but 3 in stock, and the 1 that isn't available from DigiKey will ship in 14 days.
So,
1 order from Mouser, with the XTAL on 14 day backorder,
and
1 order from Digi-Key with the "Exact" parts (DC/DC and FET) shipping now..
Best I have seen on parts in a while... Jump while you can...

I just finished ordering everything for the Dongle from Mouser except for the MOSFET 512-FQP27P06. I started with the Mouser BOM from the wiki, and made the following substitutions in order to get in-stock parts:
815-ACH-40-EK -> 520-TCH4000-X
580-MER1S0505SC -> 580-NMR100C
Since parts inventory varies daily, YMMV.
I ordered MOSFET FQP27P06 from DigiKey (in stock) to complete the order.
-
Mouser just shipped the back ordered parts (including mosfet & dc converter) that I ordered on May 17th...
Hopefully others will be gettiung theirs soon...
Checking Mouser stock through the online BOM it looks like the have the DC comnvertor in stock but the mosfet is again backordered till end of August..

Between Mouser and 2 orders from Newark I managed to get all of my parts in for my first dongle. Problem is it seems that I have ordered parts for V2 but have a V1 board. I put it together today and I have parts left over including red and green LED's... I feel like I did when I was 12 years old putting together a model car and trying to figure out what to do with the extra parts. I did order extra of almost everything so I am tempted to go ahead and build a V2 dongle and use the V1 for a spare.

Hello,

I purchased my FQP2706 MOSFETs from online components.com - http://www.onlinecomponents.com/buy/FAIRCHILD/FQP27P06/ - they currently show 0 in stock but 2,000 Due 10/3/10. They have a minimum $35.00 order so I ordered my top entry RJ45 Jacks from them - http://www.onlinecomponents.com/buy/AMP-TYCO/5520260-4/ to make up the difference. You could run some other MFG P/Ns through their search box to see if they have other items you need to make it to $35.00. They may have slighter higher prices than the other vendors but if you need this MOSFET for this season they might be your best bet.
Just my 2 cents worth.

Hi Folks,
I am a newbie, and apologise in advance if this post is in the wrong place.
I am in New Zealand and have just built my 1st sort-of-succesful Lynx Express and now am trying to find Dongle parts.
I'm trying to deal with the NZ dealer for mouser, but they don't have a couple of the parts in their online catalogue & I don't know enough to know what to substitute them with. Can anyone give me part numbers for acceptable substitutes for;
"580-MER1S0505SC DC/DC Converters & Regulators 1W 5Vin 5Vout 200mA 1kVDC Isolated SIP" and the
"571-55202514 RJ45 Modular Jack" please? They have to be mouser part numbers.
I have be searching the forums and already tried FQP27P06 for the modular jack, but they're out of those, of course.
Thanks for your help.
Cheers

Oops, scratch the last line I said about trying FQP27P06 for modular jacks. What I should have said was that I've already tried part # 580-NMR100C for the DC Converters as mentioned by someone else in a previous post/thread and the NZ mouser dealer doesn't have any.

I may have found a replacement for the DC/DC convertor, at http://www.jaycar.co.nz/productView.asp?ID=MP3200&CATID=27&form=CAT&SUBCATID=665
Can anyone confirm for me whether or not this would work, pleeease?
