Ok, Tell me this. Seeing that the Ether Dongle is connected to the network and it gets an IP address, could you open that IP Address up to thru your router? If so which port or do you just say all ports?

Everything should stay behind the router. You don't want the EtD on the open internet.
[open-internet] <==> ISP <==> cable-modem <==> router <==> your-network
your network would have:
* your PC
* your EtD
Another option is to create a private network by adding yet another network card to your PC, and having the EtD connected to that NIC or a switch that sits between the two. (I'm used to the switch, but I've heard that the newer NICs can handle it either way...)

Here is whay I am asking. I know about the security ramifications. I have create the DMX Console and like it say DMX, However I want to add PixelNet to it as well. As it is the off season (Not Christmas), A DLA User has offered to ship me the stuff I would need and then I could ship it back to him after a period of time. Instead of doing that I was wongering of it was possible to have him open his router up and I could connect to it over the intgernet and control it that way saving both of us the shipping fees.

It's been a while, but I'm fairly sure you could set up ip tunneling through ssh.

I think using team viewer, you can run vpn.

everything is possible, but how much experimentation can you handle -- remotely?
I suspect that trying to create a vpn tunnel that exposed another device (not running vpn software) through multicast might be a little tricky.

You definitely can't transmit multicast through your ISP, they will just drop it. It is not intended for the open Internet (for the most part). You could probably tunnel it, but that can get pretty technical too. I've spent lots of time troubleshooting tunnels. It can be difficult to get to work even with the same industrial grade equipment. Doing it with home based stuff and trusting your ISP to handle it correctly COULD get very frustrating.
I'm not saying you can't do it. I know people that do. Just lots of areas to go wrong.

multicast, and anything else for that matter can be sent through a tunnel... because the packets aren't transmitted over the internet as multicast. instead they would be encrypted and unrecognizable as multicast.
