My Matrix test
« on: July 16, 2011, »
I finally got my matrix working. Still have some nodes to fix, but it works. ;D

Below are some links to my test sequence. No audio, just testing it to see how everything works. I have not learned how to video it yet, so these are not as clear as it is in real life.

The matrix is made from SS flex strips. 75 columns wide by 60 rows high (6400 nodes). It is on a 10 foot by 8 foot wood frame.

Still have lots of work to do. But wanted to share where I am at.

I wrote my own program that will import an AVI file into Vixen for me. So I just use a standard video editor to create the display for the matrix and then it gets merged into my  Vixen sequence with the normal DMX channels.

I am using Vixen for now. I hope xLights gets Pixelnet support soon. The matrix takes 13,500 channels and the rest of my display is on 2 DMX universes. So I just have Vixen send the whole 16,384 channels.

Nice job!  What frame rate are you sampling the video?  I am curious how many frames per sencond your sequence is.  ie, 10 FPS.

Great job, I am looking at this in the future but the programming still looks a bit daunting.

Cheers Kev :-)

Any chance of posting or sharing the program?

The program I did for me is very customized to work with my display. I have thought about writing a more generic one that others could use, but I am not sure I have the time to properly support it.

It looks like there are only a few of us wanting to do this. Maybe I should relook at making a generic one.

Well if you do I know for sure I would give it a shot.  Have tried a couple that were suppose to work with vixen with no luck.

If you dont have the time, I understand and great looking Matrix anyway.
