Share your light show plans for this year
« on: August 13, 2010, »
I finished mapping out the channels last night and my rough estimate is that it will consume 320 amps  :o if I turn on all the lights at one time.    I use mostly mini lights so that is a plug for LEDs!

I plan to have a 45 channel mega tree this year with 15 channels each of red/green/clear.  Should make for some interesting chases.
A "MERRY CHRISTMAS" sign that is about 24 ft long red/green/clear (15 channels 5 each color)
21 mini trees moving from tomato cages to PVC can you say GFCI trip.
5 20 ft arches 9 channel blue (blue looks pretty cool)
8 7' artificial trees for a tree line (look very cool, but use a lot of lights)
100 lighted candy canes  ;D  My wife demanded I get those!
Using floods this year, but I haven't decided exactly how yet... cough aether cough

I know there this place is full of light fanatics, so what are your plans?

This is our first year with animation. We will have approx 10,000 lights, almost all LED. We will have a 24 channel midi-mega tree, (4) 3 channel coro mini trees, (2) 3 channel Holdman stars, lots of C9 LED retros, icicles and a herd of reindeer. We have completed almost 60 minutes worth of sequencing and according to the watt meter plugin in Vixen, we never have more than 20 amp draw at any time.
With our old static display, we drew more amps with less lights.
Next year will be bigger.

We have completed almost 60 minutes worth of sequencing
Care to expand on that some.  I have 0 minutes of sequencing done.  I am still picking songs.  I am kind of moving away form the standard songs that many displays use.

We are using a lot of the standard songs, plus some that are not so common. Like most 1st year newbies, we did Wizards in Winter, Amazing Grace and Christmas in Sarajevo.  We went through all of our Christmas cds and picked out somgs that we thought would be good. We have a couple of songs from Andrea Boccelli that we want to get done. Sequencing for 64 channels doesn't take long. Next year, if we expand to 128 or more, the sequencing will take a lot longer.

What program are you all going to be using for all your sequencing? Vixen? Lightshow Pro? Other?

I'm trying to decide which route I'm gonna go this year.  If Vixen, which version?  Is 2.1 the best one to use?

I started sequencing with Vixen back in February or March. I am using v2.1. I have heard that 2.5 had issues.
Maybe next year I will try LSP.

I am using both right now trying to figure out which one I am going to use this year.  I am more familiar with Vixen, but some of the features of LSP seem like big time savers.

My plan is simple.

LOL

Maybe Walt or NASA can help you out

Wondering if I will have a show this year myself. Maybe just put a spinning color wheel in front of that BRIGHT street light.

I'm just kidding around I have been doing some seqencing. I also will be on some long legs with down time on our trip around the world so over the month and half I should get some done on the trip also.

I have to admit, the sequencing is kicking my butt!
Deciding to have 7 talking head figures, 4 arches with 68 channels still to work with,  was a bit ambitious for a rookie. I'm persevering but even my OCD is wavering under the the amount of time it takes.

On the brite side! Using this hobby to help keep me busy, I'm still tobacco free!

But! If I can pull all of this off and have a winning season, Santa better bring me a damn Cuban Cigar for Christmas!

First Year...

Planning for 87 channels and about 5000 lights (I haven't actually counted yet) plus a few strobes.
Just white the first year...
32 channel mega tree + 3 channels for the star/strobes, 8 channels for the icicle lights, 12 for the mini-trees, 4 each for the two oak trees, and 24 for the bushes around the house.
