I am going to get into smart strings with the current coop, but this coop needs to fill up soon. Let me explain. The longer it sits open it eats at me and begs me to add to my order. >:D "Come on, Terry, just a few more." >:D We all wanted large coops so they wouldn't fill up so fast and here it is taunting me. I think I might be addicted. My wife sure thinks so.
Thanks for running such an immense coop, Freebird. <res. I can't imagine the work to follow.

Yep looks like you have caught the CLAP. ;D

I think that you need more smart string components. In fact, I'm pretty sure of it. >:D

Bassmants,
Oh my, you only got 16 controllers and 1 hub? :(
You know, the guys who really are serious about smart strings would never just do 16 and 1. I think they would probably do 32 and 2.
Actually, they would probably do 48 and 3, just in case one entire hub system blew, they would still have 32 and 2.
Yeah, that's the ticket, 64 Kit 1's and 4 Kit 2's. :)
You want... No, that isn't right... you NEED 64 contollers and 4 hubs. >:D
It wouldn't really be an addiction until you had 97 controllers.
Yes. It is definitely an addiction if you have 97 controllers.
Less than that is okay.
More than is not okay.
Unless its a multiple of 16.

i think someone is ordering 80 controllers hehe
and all this time, i thought Steve Gase was gonna but them all ; )

The SSC's are reasonable, it's nodes that get expensive... <fp.
-
Yes, and no. At first I just wanted to have a couple RGB nodes for a few special effects, and I wanted them cheap. So I bought fifteen single c7 bulb clip lights from the dollar tree. Add to that five each red, green, and blue bulbs, another $4. So I had nineteen dollars invested in making five cheap RGB lights for pumpkins.... And ended up with ten pumpkins. So I need to double my lights, which means another $19 for effectively ten lights. If you look at the price of the square modules, you'll realize I could have bought twenty RGBW lights for the same price including shipping.... Double the lights, plus white capability, and we haven't even talked about the fact that I'll need two express for the thirty ports to do what a single four port hub and SSC could do.
EDIT: for the record, I ended up with a total of fifteen pumpkins

As rimist pointed out, I too found the smart strings to be just a little more expense or cheaper. If you figure the controller and all the other stuff associated with it the smart strings, it just doesn't make sense to not use them. Then throw in the flexibility and they are a natural winner.

Thing to remember with the smart strings is what power you will save as well when trying to figure out your costs......
power costs as in useage, and power hardware costs as in # of circuits required, power upgrade required etc....

And it works great on battery too

I thought this hobby was meaningless unless it was done BIG.
I think with the latest Aether2 and SSC coops I will have everything I need. Thanks RJ! Thanks coop managers!!

Yep - It worked - I succumbed.

After a few mods to my order as well, I think I have a solution that will work for me. Tomorrow, I leave on a trip and going to where the Internet don't shine. No computer, no smart phone. My last mod was my last mod!
We'll see . . . >.d9

Now you need a yard that does justice to your display. You are in Texas, you should have like a 1 acre front yard?
*smile*

i think in Texas, one acre is just the driveway

I've been looking for a new property for about 6 months now. It's not JUST for the hobby, my wife needs space for her business too... but I will say that gated communities are a NO-GO! ...at least until I manage to build the display higher so that it is visible over gates, fences, and hills -- visibility from the next township would be good. :)

Steve, Shoot for the moon, that is don't stop until NASA can see it from the MOON.

But I wasn't planning on LASERS until NEXT year. :)
With strong enough lasers couldn't you illuminate one of the larger craters with some of the up-and coming nutcracker sequences? Just imagine the canvas to work with... at least until chrisatpsu gets into the act. :o

i'm only further behind since you have a higher operating budget than me : )
btw, the past couple of days, i've sniped leads on over 900 through hole rgb leds.... i'm getting there...
