I created a new element of my display this year that I am calling "pixel sticks" They are reworked 80's "chase strips" the units are a 2" x 2" metal box with 8 standard base light sockets on about 6" centers and am currently using 15 of them. I custom made 8 channel SSR to fit in the light strips. 2 cat 5's from each strip run back to the frestyle board. I am currently using 11watt sign lamps but play on changing to 7 1/2 watt round lamps. It it kind a different twist on "Beligiao lights"
I will post assembly pictures soon!
KEN
PS Thanks RJ for the SSR info. I have extra PCB's if any one is interested.
I posted the wrong video OOPS!! I have added pictures!!

They look great!

Very nice neat layout. Will come in handy for a number of people using external SSR's. How about doing a coop for them so others can take avantage of your work?

OK...that is very cool and exactly what I want to do next year...but with RGB LEDs. What software did you use to animate that? Vixen or LSP?
LSP has a matrix animator which looks very promising.

The 8 channel SSR would be very usefull on eight channel leaping archs. I would really benfit from your design.

I thought the things on the house where them.

I will try to get the cost together over the next few week so we could maybe have a coop after the first of the year.

That was done the hard way. Each stick is 8 lamps on about 6" centers connected to my 8 channel SSR and connected to a Freestyle for a total of 128 channels.
I am controlling it with Light-O-Rama so all of the letters are programmed by hand using a basic 5x7 matrix except for W and M.
It is working really good. I am still tweekin the speed. I have several different messages at different speeds!!
I am also using the display for "snow" on Let it Snow and others.

I would love to build these pcbs and to build some "Pixel sticks" of my own. Great work!
-
Great!
I hope to have some time next week to get the costs together on the SSR8 to do a possible coop or just sell the PCB's that I have left. I am going to contact a nearby carnival equipment manufacture that I have purchased power cables from in the past about the cost to purchase prepunched 2 x 2 light strips for 8 lamps.

RJ,
I know of a nearby carnival equipment manufacture that makes these

I am not sure what they cost yet (I will find out next week) but I was thinking about your SSR4 with DMX and my SSR8. I wonder about a SSR8-DMX.....basically your SSR4-DMX with 8 channels. To keep it simple just have it a DMX dimmer only without an option of a standalone SSR. I would also work great for Arches too.
Hmmmm
Happy new year
