I saw this post in the Vixen section.

If you are using pixelnet you need to be at 50ms and not 25ms

Rick R.

All of my sequences are 10 or 25 ms.  I like the smooth ramping and fading at that speed.  I am adding pixelnet for 2011.  You mean I will have to slow all my sequences down to a choppy speed of 50ms?

Here, here! (or is that "hear, hear"?)

When I first started this hobby last year, I did notice that you can get away with 50 ms timing for smooth fades and ramps with incadescent lights, but it gets choppy with LED lights, so I stuck with 25 ms for all my sequences.

I also like the shorter interval to make a strobe light-like effect without having to resort to, well, buying strobe lights since I like to keep the display 100% LED.

DMX spec is pretty broad about how often it sends out a packet. "Normal" speed is something like 44 packets per second, but is frequently slower than that, especially with an OpenDMX or dumb dongle.

I've not measured the number of packets per second that Pixelnet sends, but if it is less frequent than your 25ms timings, then its just going to skip or miss some data. Anybody know the timings for Pixelnet?

Thank you Keith.  I ran all my sequences last year at 10ms.  I only had LE's and SSR4's running about 144 channels.  Sounds like I was pushing it by the info in your link.  I will try them at 25ms first to see what happens.   It is easy to change them and re-save them to 50ms.
