no power from hub
« on: August 25, 2011, »
I was working on my hub today to figure out why i don't have any power from ANY of the rj45 jacks. the spot on the board for the 12v out has power. Any ideas on what might be the problem or how i can test this further. I did have my hub working at one time.

thanks,
ratroder

Did you try all of the 16 ports with one SSC?

If so its possible you blew each of the green fuses if that SSC is shorted across the power wires.

or I could be totally wrong

<fp. Yes, that it is and there is power out of the supply.

Yes I did try all the ports. The wires are not shorted, checked all my solder joints.

correct rj45 wires in the correct order to your ssc?

The conductors go in this order starting at the pad mark #1 on the left to the right.
1 - White with Orange Stripe
2 - Orange
3 - White with Blue Stripe
4 - Blue
5 - White with Green Stripe
6 - Green
7 - White with Brown Stripe
8 - Brown

wires 1&2 - Data
wires 3-4-5 Pos Power
wires 5-6-8 Neg Power

Yep everything is connected correct. I had the strings working, but had to put all the stuff aside to deal with some other things. I think is might be the fuses on the hub.

did you use a multi 12v rail power supply.  Not sure what the fuses will do if you use one as 2 independent 12v sources are being sent to the hub....

It may very well be the fuse - I had to replace one of mine.  With the power off you can measure across the fuse with an ohm-meter set to a high range.  That will tell you if it is open.

Have you tried using different cables, just to make sure its not the cable?

dumb question - but do you have a green light on the hub for power?

do you also have 12v from the aux power connector or pads if no connectors?

You need to put a ohm meter on all the fuses. I am worried like others that you had something shorting and plugged it into all 16 ports there by blow 16 fuses. I hope I am very wrong.  Also make sure you cables are not cross over as this will do it.

So as the ohm meter has said all the fuses are bad  <fp. It looks like i will be placing am order with mouser. I did check the cable to make sure that it was a straight through cable and it is.

I come to find out that mouser is actually back ordered on the fuses. Any other suggestions of a place that might have them?
