On reply #19 on the 'power cords' thread RJ says:
'1 Amp a channel is fine with no heatsink ...(cut).... If you want more than 1 amp on a TO220 case since it can only dissipate so much heat in the area avaliable you need to attach it to something with a good path for the heat to move fast into it. A heatsink with a little heat compound is ideal.
No it will not self destruct at 2 amps as a few will jump in hear to say but it is a good idea to keep them cool.'
It doesn't sound like you are going to come close to even 1 amp a channel though
.
The single power lead hookup is explained in the express manual on the wiki please see:
Appendix A single power input mod
It isn't mandatory to do it this way, but it will save you one less dang cord to have to fight with while setting everything up.
I hooked up everything on my expresses with 6 foot cords, what a mess every time I go to use it I spend forever untangling cords. My next ones will get 3 footers.
(of course, if I wasn't too lazy to wrap and bundle the cords I wouldn't have to fight them every time either
