Channel LEDs #4 not illuminated
«
on:
July 03, 2013, »
I just finished building my first LE. When I run the built in test I'm having an issue with the #4 and #6 LEDs not illuminating.
I have checked and retouched the solder points on the chip holders and LEDs. The chip pins are not bent. I've switched Chips with known working ones with no change.
I need help to determine my next step. Thanks in advance.

Do you actually have power on channel 4 and 6 and just the LEDs do not illuminate?

Thanks Dan. No power detected on either. So what does mean?

Can I use my meter to troubleshoot this further? If so, how?

I would try re-programming the PIC first.

I would definitely try the PIC first as well (easy to do). I had a similar issue that reprogramming addressed, although I can't remember for sure if it was 4&6 that did not work.

Are the LEDs installed in the correct direction?

This is always the best way to learn. Where would the fun be if you had the time to learn something before using it?
If you need help with it, just ask and we are here for you.

Yes fun!?!
My wife is questioning my decision to build it myself...
I guess this may be the best way to learn. If the saying "you learn more from your failure than you do your success" is also true I'll be approaching genius level...
I think I have reprogrammed the pic, but nothing has changed.
I switched the pic out with a pic from a second yet to be built kit and no go with that one.

I agree the most common reasons for these symptoms is the two LEDs in backwards.

I agree RJ, but John stated he had no power from the two channels also, would this not mean it is the PIC or the chips?
If the chips are in backwards, will this cause this?
Check that the chips are oriented the same as the others.

I replaced the #6 LED and still no go. When I probed it I'm not getting current to the LED.

Yes the chips are in the same. I just re-swapped the chip on #5 and with the one on #6 and no change.

Did you program the second PIC? What was the checksum when you programmed the PIC?
