Spiral mini mega tree
« on: February 24, 2014, »
I've built the spiral tree frame now I want to put the lights on. The tree is 8' tall and 4' wide at the bottom. How many strands of each color of lights should I use? I was thinking 8-white, 8-red and 8-green. If anyone has up close pic's or video's of their spiral trees I would appreciate a look. All suggestions are welcome.  :)

Unfortunately I'm not a pixel guy yet. 100ct mini's are what I have in my storage shed.  :)

This decorator has two videos that may be of interest.  Here is one to start with.

Thanks Jeff, that is the video I used to build the frame but he never mentions how many strings he put on it and he doesn't show it in action. I will watch it again and make sure I didn't miss anything.

Looking at the video it is hard to tell how many strings they used. Looking at the picture of the head he has 16 screws to loop the strings over, which to me means 16 of each color. He may have used 8 strings doubling them using 2 pins.

He has a second video on the same topic but I'm not sure he mentions how many strings in that video either.  If you figure it out let us all know.

At about 1:03 he states 8 red and 8 blue 100 ct strings together on every other mounting screw and 8 white and 8 green on the others. He goes into great detail in this video to how he wraped it. Well worth watching it all.

He has a bunch of videos where you can see the tree in action. You can start with this one at about 35 sec.

He even has a third video with the parts he used for the frame

Don't know if you were gonna zip tie this or cut groovs in the legs. I always had problems with the strings sliding if I pulled them tight or drooping is they were too slack. It may not be as bad on a smaller tree, it was an issue with my 14' tree. I gave up on it this year.

Everything looks good except for putting the male plug at the top doesn't look right.  However it could be that I was just dizzy from watching the camera spin around the tree.
