Title: SmartString Mega Tree video examples?
Post by: Jasonlnlv on December 03, 2011,
Does anyone have videos of a Mega Tree using SmartStrings - I wanted to see what the effect would be.

Wow that was great - is that programmed using Vixen or LSP? Do you happen to know how many SS controllers and actual SS and the lengths that is?

I really like the 'rain drop' cascading and spinning effects!

This stuff is so very cool!

Or does the SmartString need Pixelnet? And runs separate from the DMX Lynx Express controllers running other parts?

And I will be researching this but what is Pixelnet?

The best advice I can give you is to go to the WIKI. From there you'll learn many things. Do watch the videos from RJ especially regarding pixelnet. If you need more clarification, then post it here.

RJ's tree last year was done with Vixen 2.1.x

Going by memory I think it was 16 SSCs with 60 nodes each

I know he was planning to go with 32 SSCs

Yes but they were 70 nodes each string. We were to have 32 this year on it and use SS on the eves and a color ledtriks like bills but some family issues and time became an issue so I could not do a show this year.

The rest is correct It was done in vixen 2.1 so it was a lot of work I was planning to use lsp this year to help and run it from a conductor with a slave wireless across the street for another house.

Thanks, I was just on the Wiki reading and node refers to lights is that the individual light on each string? So the 70 nodes was the 19-21 ft one and each string needs a smart string controller?

Not to get you confused regarding LED lights. There are so many terms with regards to LED lights. A node refers to a RGB module consisting of 3 leds, red, green, and blue, which you can control individually if they have IC controller in the module or node. While the first types of LED that is used for light strings consist of 1 led per light and most are commonly connected serially.

Right now IMHO, LED nodes are mostly made in China and their quality is not that good. They focus mainly on quantity than quality. Maybe as time goes by, their quality will improve. Right now I'm using incandescent lights (or incans in DIY lingo) and led strings of 1 color mostly white. Try to go to Ray Wu's website and see the different led RGB nodes and led strings.

Hope this shed a little bit of light. Here is another tip for you to understand more about RGB pixels or nodes. There are videos explaining just about anything with regards to RGB nodes.
