Look what I brought home today!
« on: December 22, 2009, »
It's a new MEGA TREE!!!

Actually it's a new mega tree pole.  It is a retired street light pole.  It is 33 feet tall  :D, aluminum.  It weighs about 150lb.  The base is about 6" diameter, and it tapers up to about 2.5" at the top.  It also comes with the concrete base that they use to set these on in the city!  The concrete is about 16" square by 48" tall, and has mounting bolts sticking out of it for the pole.

I guess I better go start digging!

Kyle   ;D ;D

BTW........I got some interesting looks while driving up the freeway with it.  It was only about a 50 mile drive.

WOW

You will have to blog the setup of the new tree.   Personally, like to see how you deal with the securing of the base of the tree and getting topper and lights up the pole.    I am sure that this has the potential to be the coolest tree yet.

I heard on the news that Marysville Police are on the look out for someone who pilfered a 33' foot lamp post.  They figured it was some Christmas light enthusiast from the local area who wanted to use it as a mega christmas tree.

my suggestion is that you go out and steal another one and then put them together to make a 66 footer and then they'll never recognize it   :D

WOW...

That's so awesome... I'm wonder how many light you will need :).

I can imagine how the call to the police was..

Ring ring…
Police: Sheriff department, good morning..  8)
Woman: Good morning, I want to report a robbery… someone stole the light pole from our street last night.  >:(
Police: stole what?  ???
Woman: Yes, someone took the light pole from our street.   :'(
Police: calm down… were you drinking this morning? :-\ For what reason someone will steal one lighting post, is not like some crazy guy will use it to make a Christmas tree…  ;D

My current Mega is 28' to the top of the pole.  So I am adding 5', but also, this will be a much cleaner setup.  I am thinking I might not even need to guy it.  I mean, these things are engineered to hold a light 6'+ out over the road.  When I was getting the pole, I picked up one of the  luminarys that they use with these, and those things are not light (well, actually they are  ;D).
