For some reason I'm unable to get Vixen installed. The .Net framework is installed and up to date. I've downloaded the Vixen zip, both 2.1.1 and 2.5 (prefer the first one) but when I try to open and run the exe file it tells me it can't find a program to open it. Same thing no matter which version. I am running 64 bit Windows 7 on PC. If I HAVE to I can run it on a spare pc with XP like I did for our Halloween show on Maestro (Vixen for AL) but I'd rather not and I know some people say they've run it with this operating system. Any tips or ideas as to why I can't run the file?

Are you running vixen out of the zip file or did you unzip it to a directory? With Win7 when you open up the zip, it looks like it is in a directory. That may be the problem. Copy/extract to you c: drive and run it off of that drive.
-
I extracted all zip files. Then I opened the directory and selected the exe file and was told that Windows can't open it.
-
Not sure why but just for reference It will operate on it fine as I am running win7 64bit.

check to see if you have administrator rights on the computer. Don't know about vixen requirements, but some programs require administrator rights and this was written several years ago. Are you running Vixen 2.1 or 2.5 2.1 runs great on my Win7 x64, but 2.5 just loads then craps out whenever I try to do something with it. I only use 2.5 to look at downloaded sequences created with 2.5 so I just use on older XP box.
-
Sorry I forgot to say I only use 2.1 also. Sort of like comics from the 80's on SNL K.C. considers it as having been a

I've run 2.5x on Win7 64 bit... or at least I think I'm running that version on my wife's laptop... :-\ will check when I get home.
-
Yep... 2.5.0.8 is the version I have on a Windows7 64 bit machine. Running it w/ no probs.
-
Using Version 2.1 on Windows 7 64Bit.
-
I used 2.5.0.3 and 2.5.0.5 on a Win 7 64 machine and both have no issues (Except for the 2.5 bugs ;D)

Ugh. Still no luck. Zip file is downloaded but can't run exe file as computer says it can't open. Any other links to try or thoughts?

Greetings,,,
Have you tried downloading and unzipping again, in case of file corruption?

Did you unzip the file? I think Win 7 wording is extract all
Also do you have administrator privilege on the computer?
Right click on the vixen.exe and select run a administrator
