What about the modules we saw briefly?
« on: January 10, 2011, »
Like everyone else I am excited to see SmartString strings but RJ did show some other RGB light options using SS tech.
My question is: if I were to use some of the module type packages, how do these work in the SS world?  Can I create a "string" of modules and use one controller for multiple modules and address each module seperately or will I have to dedicate a controller to each and every module.  By module I mean the round or rectangular packages shown in the video that was posted or for that matter the inflexible rods of lights as well.
I only ask this because it does impact my decision on numbers of controllers needed.

thanks.

If you read the post in the SSC and HUB coop he says that you can control 128 of the square and round nodes in the video off of 1SSC.  Though I imagine that the current draw for those units is higher since they have three LEDs/node rather than 1.  I have not seen it mentioned but I believe those items use one pic and all three LEDs emit the same color (i.e. they are just a brighter node)

Now I have not seen an answer for the rigid strips that RJ demoed in the video.  I sent him a PM on that.  He mentions in the video that there are 30 LEDs per strip.  I would speculate that you MAY be able to run 4 of those off of 1 SSC but I am not an expert on this topic so don't take my word  :)

Yes you can run 4 of the ridged strips.

Funny thing is my kids and I were having a discussion about the word 'stupid' and how it isn't a kind word to say.
After posting the original message if feel kinda stoopid.
Thanks for the response though.

Ok color me stupid, but I do not remember seeing any video in which RJ showed/discussed square pixels or such.  Where?

I can't figure how to quote from another topic but the link to a CCR demo was posted by RJ in the "What is Smart Strings" thread around Dec 19 (~the 23rd page of responses).  Hopefully that helps.

Can I get the following information, as it has a direct correlation with how many SSCs, SS hubs, and SS nodes I can get (the price of these determines what's left over for extra nodes):

How much current draw does each of these draw:
5050 Square (single or 120)?
5050 Rectangle (single or 80)?
1 Flex Strip?
1 Rigid Strips?

Approximately how much will each of these setups cost (just a rough figure will do):
120 5050 Squares (or for 1 square)?
80 5050 Rectangles (or for 1 rectangle)?
1 Flex Strip? (video said about $90)
1 Rigid Strip?

Thanks!
