hehehe...........i guess a line will be forming soon

lol Steve, you are not he only one thinking that. I keep telling myself to be patient but my aether II cases and power supplies are sitting on my workbench just waiting to be started. I request 6 myself! I am going to be broke the entire year after I finish up with smart strings...

Don't tell the wife, I think all need at least 2.

unless there are any objections... let's just move the replies in this thread to the new aether2 coop thread when it begins.
no objections...?
ok, we have a plan!
(list moved to top...)

LOL, yea, good luck with that plan.

I'd be glad to be a coop manager and run this but I live in texas where mouser is so they would charge sales tax. which would have to be passed onto the members.

Sales tax is not a big issue in my mind. If it was something to factor in, maybe a pickup at the mouser physical site would offset those costs. I'd be happy having the PCB (with surface mounts) and heat sink. Maybe a texas-based coop for those items only would relieve the pressure for the other Aether2 orders.
-
lol Steve what have you started.... the Aether 2 coop will start soon enough. We just need to be patient! ;)

Kinda surprised some guys still are undecided about the aether II...
You guys getting 5 and 6 aethers: either you have huge houses or you won't see any lights on your house with all them aethers on ;D
-
Two story house with elevation changes from first and second stories, one side of my house is visible to a third road too....maybe I should send a picture and ask for display suggestions. I'll post in the porch tonight for assistance there.

I'm also chomping at the bits to get ahold of a few Aether II's (probably about 4). :)
I live in Ft. Worth and have made several "road" trips to the Mouser facility in Mansfield (about 28 miles from my house). Maybe a "pre-purchase list" is not such a bad idea. You would be able to judge how much interest the members are in getting one - Just my 2.5 cents worth.

I dislike hanging lights from the house, and also from the trees... But I do want to include them in the overall plans -- so bright floods applied to the trees and the house allow me to increase the size of the canvas without a lot of work -- or damage.
I've got a big mega tree, and a bunch of mini trees and 20ft arches. Adding the floods and over-the-drive arches will "complete me". :)

It really isn't probably a bad idea since the the whole concern with the aether is about having the heat sinks made. IIRC the shop that made em had some minimums that RJ was concerned with.

I agree Steve ... this year I used up light floods on my real trees and it looked really cool. Way easier than trying to wrap a few branches with mini lights ... and the effect is cool and simple. I just used regular flood lights, because right now the Aether costs are still kind whats stopping me ... cause I use a lot of floods and can't see spending 1000+ when I'm getting by with clearance flood holders and $5 bulbs in three colors. THe real benefit to me would be regaining all those AC channels I'm wasting on floods currently.
-
I am waiting for the next Grinch COOP. Why haven't we had one of those in a while ?!?!?!?
I think I will order about 135 of them.
(tongue effectively in cheek) *smile*
If any of you guys want a challenge, I have two very broken Aether IIs and not the patience to figure out what I did to screw them up! LOL

The biggest gain for me was the lower power requirements...

Ozmin, I hear right, does mouser allow local pickup?

Yes - The have a "will call" area. You can call in an order and in about 2 hours it's ready for pickup.

Aethers have been spoken for and a brave soul has stepped up to attempt to fix what I broke! LOL.
I appreciate all the requests. Just shows how much this group thrives on challenges. I would not give these away if I had more time to spend on them, but alas, I do not.

looks like the 40 watt RGBW LED's in the Mouser BOM are out of stock and a new LED to replace it is 7 weeks out. That makes me sad :(
-
There was concern over the led last year and RJ as usual had it taken care of already! Not sure, but I thought RJ did not get the leds from Mouser, but directly from Ledengin?

For those of your interested in the Aether 2 coop...it opened and closed yesterday.
JUST KIDDING >:D
Actually, the coop should be starting soon. There has not been a shortage of items for members to spend their money on so I have not been pushing it. I'm starting to gear up for it. The LED's are probably going to drive it since they are OOS, but are scheduled to be in soon. I'm also hoping that these will be a little cheaper and maybe have more available...none of which is for sure.
Just wanted to give an update as to the status. I know it is tough to wait, but it is coming. Sorry I missed the original post. I don't hang out in/on the porch much.
Thanks,
-Keith

I was looking through the coops hoping I didn't miss the Aether coop. Would be in for 3.

I think it's fair to say that anyone in this thread should look out for the others. I live on the west coast and when the coops start (most coop managers live out east) I'm barely getting out of bed and the coops are closed. If anyone notices a coop for these to start I will pay a handling fee just to get my name on the list.....
I know RJ will cringe when he sees this one.
I'm just saying.
-
I'm happy to oblige if I see it first. ;D

Yeap!!! I can see my next issue coming. people trying to pay others to order coops for them. <fp.

Heads up! The SSC pre-coop is about to start. you don't want to miss this one. <yk..

...I think I will have better luck at finding the Holy Grail tonight.

I know we all heard that it could start at anytime, but do you have inside info? If so please don't post but PM me. <;d
-
This is the prw-coop area!

No inside info, lol.
...just humor that was carried on since the start of this thread.
there are just a number of us waiting outside the store for the new videogame/iphone/cabbagepatchdoll to be available.

Why we are all out hear waiting. What change do you think was made to SSC's
-

I am completely out of the loop, but I will guess nevertheless... :)
I heard something about the active hubs being extended to support dumb strings... so I wonder if SSCs might be part of that solution. maybe DSCs (dumb string controllers) are on the way to allow the same power-over-cat5 and pixelnet control over dumbstrings... providing only string mode (not hybrid or pixel mode) control. just a guess with nothing to back it up.
I'd love for an improvement to the fuse situation on the active hubs...
-
Hubs don't support ANY strings. That is the job of the controller. One of the changes is a redesign of the smart string controller to give it more output power. This does not mean that it will support more nodes. What thatwill do is give the controller the ability to control some of the more stubborn strings that Ray's controller could contol when the SSC could not. Another possible option could be a passive 16 port hub. The difference between an active and a passive hub is active hubs have the DMX output. There was also the idea of a dumb string controller which is completely different from a smart string but I don't know if RJ even had time to design that one yet.

the coop has started!!

if your numbers in this thread are firm, i'll attempt to add them to the coop.
DONE!! BUT GO IN AND PROVIDE YOUR LENS INFO -- I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT YOU WANTED.
Let me know if I should remove the posting i did for you.
(coop managers, please don't slap me! :) )
