The Elation Platinum Beam 5R's are certainly awesome, but go for about $2000 a pop. And then you have to build some housings (and upgrade your electrical service). Check out this link for the 134 used at this years superbowl. Nice shot of the housings a bit further down the page

I've bought a lot of stuff from these guys that seems to be pretty good quality without going broke.
They have a lot of cheap UV and DMX strobe stuff for you Halloween guys too.

Not to mention that his show only runs 3 times a night - I let mine run continuously from dusk to about 1030...

So far my neighbors like it, but we haven't had much of a traffic jam yet...

Me too I am working on making something similar with servos and like the pin spot on the second link.

You can buy the housing, lenses and heat sink for $20.00 from ADJ and put in your own 3W RGB....OH rats...

Thanks Gator I will have to look at those case, right now the problem I have is to find a lens to focus the beam to about 6 to 20 degrees . I have these small lens that fits over the LED and its not working good at all.
Just do it.

The airport was the first thing I was thinking too.  I'm using some lasers, so I'm in contact with the FAA to get approval.  Lasers can get you in trouble real quick.

Do something different where they don't shine up into the sky.  It hardly seems worth all the money and you get to use them 3 days out of the year (assuming that is what you get too).
gatorengineer, what Lasers are you using and how are they set up/controlled?

Was gonna say Cheaplights or Stageape have similar DMX mobile spots.
