Title: MR-16 controller enclosure
Post by: dmaccole on December 30, 2008,
Hiya.

I can't seem to track down which YBBS enclosure was used to house the MR-16 controller boards. The co-op just listed "enclosures" and the picture in the wiki is nice, but the part number isn't clear enough to figure out.

A hint would be appreciated.

Thanks.

hmmmm.... perhaps a coop manager would want to jump on that for a future coop!

My thought exactly John!  50+ units. Sounds like it's perfect.  Sure beats us all bidding on the same thing driving the price up.

1 bid submitted.     I'm more than willing to attempt to get it at the minimum price and then share the benefit with all.

So where/when can we badger you for orders?  ;D

I'm guessing you will post in the sale area?  Or the coop?

Thanks again Larry!

Just a quick follow-up.   Shipment delayed due to hiccup in the seller's paypal account.  My payment was posted but the monies were never posted into his account.  All clear now and he will be shipping out to me today.

After I know how many boxes and their condition, I'll try to figure out how to spread the wealth at minimum cost.

52 enclosures arrived today.    More than half of the are extremely useable.  The remainder do not have the sponge seals.  Several have some dribbles of a black substance on the outside (guessing a black tar) and a few have a flat antenna glued to the inside which can be removed without much difficulty.  Neither of these "extras" would preclude use for housing the MR16.

Please send me a PM  (do not post in this forum) if you would want enclosures.   Be sure to include the quantity you are interested in and your zip code so that I can get a better estimate on shipping.

The per enclosure price will be less than $2 each.  I am guessing that most efficient (for shipping ) quantity will probably be in groups of 4 (using standard box) but will check with UPS and USPS to see what is doable.

Larry

Update:  Current Talley:  10 requests for total of 45 enclosures.

Added pictures so that the less than perfect  can be seen.    The enclosure at the top is perfect with the sponge seals.  The enclosure in the middle has no sponge seals but does have 2 strain relief type plastic connectors.  Most of the boxes in this condition only have one (in the middle hole).  The bottom still has the holes plugged but does have the antenna previously mentioned.  For those interested, the second picture is of the back of the antenna.   Because of the size of the connecting cable, this antenna appears to be suitable for cell phone or similar use.

A little research indicates that shipping will be between $8 and $9 for a box with 4 enclosures.   To cover Ebay, Paypal, shipping and any packing mat'ls,  (and to keep the costs simple),  I'm rounding to $16 total for 4 enclosures.

Unless the requester specifies otherwise, I'll split each group of 4 evenly between the almost  perfect and not so perfect..  with pot luck on who gets antennas.

Larry.

All of the enclosures have been spoken for.    I will be getting the shipping boxes on Monday and hopefully get the enclosures into the mail on Tuesday to those who have paid by that time.  If payment is not received by Monday midnight (Central time), I will assume that you do not want it.

Thanks for understanding.

If anyone needs more, maybe someone can get a co-op started.

I have contacted AFL Telecommunications (the company who distributes the Keptel CG-500) and was informed that they are available for $6.12 each with a minimum order quantity of 36 pieces and larger volumes in multiples of 36. Current lead-times are 4-6 weeks.

If anyone is interested, here is the company contact info

Has any one found any of these lately?  Google was no help? i just need one.

joshuashu,

Some people have used the CG-1000 enclosure instead of the CG-500.  The 1000 is a bigger enclosure but if that isn't an issue you may want to consider it.

Does the holes line up? Or are they just making fit. If it lines up thats good to know.

So the holes don't line up? How are you guys going about "making it work?" Just curious. I had the same experience last year with the small enclosure and the SSROZ. Brad helped me out by showing me how to use Home Depot's concrete anchors and gorilla glue. Is that what you guys are doing?

I hope not. I know CG-500 boxes are out there they are still in production. Broadband just stopped carrying them. You can even but them in quanitity from AFL direct if we could get enough together that need them.

Was mounting my MR-16 boards in the enclosures I got from the pseudo-group buy.  While all of the boxes are labelled as CG-500, not all of the mounting holes in the boxes were the same.  Two of the enclosures lined up perfectly with the holes in the PCB.  On the other two, the bottom two holes on the PCB line up nicely with holes in the enclosure, but there is nothing at the top to screw into.  Other than that the cases appear to be identical.  Just wanted to share, that not all of these appear to be the same when it comes to mounting.

You know whats funny and good at the same time?

Going from worrying about were everyone would get the cases for MR16 controllers to worrying about which place is better!   ;D

I'll take the latter any day.
