Title: Valentine Window Effect??
Post by: rrowan on February 08, 2013,
Hi Sean,

I wanted to create a effect and I am not sure how to go about it.

Its a single strand RGB window so 4 sides of 48 nodes total. I wanted to have the nodes off and then start at the bottom and move up a fade in to red then once all red it does the opposite with the nodes going white and then repeat.

So the bottom starts off red and then the nodes on the left and right side come on then then the top comes on to red.
Then at the top (a few seconds like) a smooth shift to white and then the white moves down the sides to the bottom.
A pause then fade to black and then repeat.

I would like it slow and smooth since its just a effect with no music.
Using Vixen 2.1

Any ideas how to do that?

Thanks

Rick R.

so

Phase 1, bottom goes from black to full on red. This is like a color wash, no movement just fade from black to red
phase2, leave bottom full red and fade in both sides to full red.
OR
do a single chase from the bottom to the top with a RED

Phase3, after sides are full RED, fade in top to FULL RED
Phase 4, some amount of secondss, like 5-10, nothing happens. Window frame is FULL RED at this moment
Phase 5, fade RED on top to WHITE
Phade 6, fades sides from RED to WHITE
Phase 7, fade bottom from RED to WHITE

did i get it right??

Rick-

What is the orientation of the window?  My 48 node windows were as follows:

    25   39
24           40
16           48
    15      1

I wrote some arch and window effects that do exactly what you want.

How long do you want the effect to take from bottom to top?

My program generates a Vixen routine file.  I can send to you privately if you're interested.

Hey Rick-

I've made a few assumptions, but I think this will work for what you're wanting.

1)  You use hybrid mode.  This way you can keep the window red or white for as long as your need and it's easier than pasting the data for each channel.

2)  You use 50ms timing.

Just copy these VIR files to the Vixen "Routines" folder and they're ready for you to use.

These "wipes" take 2.5 seconds from top to bottom (and vice versa).  I can adjust in increments of 50ms.  Let me know if this is what you were looking for.  I wasn't sure how you wanted to "fade" to black.  If you're using hybrid mode you can fade to black quite easily.  If you need another "wipe" from white to black, let me know which direction.

I'm especially interested in how the 44 node window effects work.  Based on your info, each section has a different amount of nodes.  My program has never been tested for this in a real life application.  In theory, it will work since I treat each section individually in the program.  But still, looking forward to hearing how it works.

I am building the vixen file and converting over to the conductor

I will let you know as soon as I test it.  <res.

Many thanks

Here is the video. https://vimeo.com/59342484

I took it too early but you get the effect.
I went old school with the music overlay :)

Thanks to Steve and Sean

Its strange that it looks like the camera was moving since it was on a tripod. I guess the wind move it
