i got a 5' x 4', 3 channel star (found it on the internet) im workin on. its pretty cool.

be a little while yet. gotta finish up the star, then program the sequence. havent got the software all figured out yet either.

Yep.

I don't have a computer projector like he used, so I used MS Publisher banner, printed out a bunch of pages and taped them together. Then, so i could keep it as a reusable pattern, i punched small holes in the paper template where each C9 light was to go. I taped the pattern to a sheet of plywood, and using a felt tip marker, transferred the punch marks to the plywood. I then traced the outline of the star pattern onto the plywood. From there it's just a matter of cutting it out and drilling holes.

I also deviated a little from the Holdman original by stapling & hot gluing the sockets in place. they're locked in there pretty tight right now. hopefully they will stay that way.

Somewhere on the web I saw that someone made a smaller version of that star.  I put that on my list of 2011 projects.  Darn that list is getting to big already.
