This wasn't the first time that it happened and it probably will not be the last.

One can only hope it will be the last time...I get hack attempts every day. Always script kiddies poking around.

Are there any indications that it was just a defacement or was there any data lost?

I run 3 websites using Joomla and the amount of hackers and spammers trying to get in is unbelievable.
