Title: Output Plugins
Post by: twooly on June 16, 2012,
Is there some docs on getting LSP setup with the Etherdongle

I've got a couple expresses/mr16/aethers and then smart strings.  Etherdongle is flashed with pixelnet and the express/mr16/aethers come off the dmx out off the hub.

Thanks

Are you here at the academy? I am currently in the etherdongles class.

I know there is a document that explained setting up the etherdongle with lsp and xlights. Check those 2 forums.

That was the one that worked for me.

Yeah I've read through that a couple times but for some reason I can't get it to work in LSP.  Works fine in vixen and xlights just can't get it in LSP.  One thing I've noticed is that the checkbox act never stays checked for me for whatever reason.

Ill give a remove/add clean start on the plugins again.

Make sure your controllers are configured for e131. And the channels are correct. You might post some screenshots.

Follow this thread over at LSP.

Second posting has a link to a setup document.

Hope that helps.

It is close to xLights but some diff.

Are you connecting via Wireless or Cat5 Ethernet?

Usually, when I saw that LSP wouldn't "keep" the checkbox checked, it was because it wasn't "seeing" that connection.

E.g. I made the mistake thinking that I was connected via Cat5 when in fact I was trying to connect to the Etherdongle via Wireless. I tried to check the check boxes, and the checkmark was marked correctly, but when I went back to the outputs, it was unchecked.
I flipped the outputs to Cat5 Wired and it then worked correctly and the check marks stayed checked.

Also check that if you are trying to connect via Cat5 Wired that your Wireless is turned Off.

Here's some additiinal thoughts that I found out about when setting up LSP with the Etherdongle:

Ok so I'm close.  This is over a wireless connection and works perfect within xlights.

The act checkbox is also staying now.

When I do the test controller hardware within lsp it responds just fine but when I try within the sequence I don't get a thing.  I do have the enable output set on.

Here is the screenshots and thanks for the help so far!

On the post above, it seems you have smart strings and DMX.

Which one's are you testing in the above when turning on the Output?

And what are the jumper settings for the hub?

I'm assuming you are setting the jumpers at 1 and 1 for the DMX set up on the hub

What are the actual addresses in LSP for each type of lights you are using, and do they match what you programmed them with the Smart String Utility?

For my Smart LED Flexstrips, the first set appears in LSP as Controller type: RGB light controller and ControllerProtocol: E.131 DMX over ethernet, channel numbers are 1 - 360 (there's 120 Nodes on my first lights.)

For my first DMX controllers, they appear in  LSP as controller type: Light Controllers, Controller Protocol E1.31 DMX over Ethernet.

Now, for DMX channel numbers, they are numbered as 3898 - 3913 in LSP, but their physical DMX address is set to 314 - 330.

This is because I have selected DMX universe 8, which starts at logical address 3584. However, the hardware DMX addresses can only be between 1 and 512. Note, that I used the utility to program their DMX addresses as 314 - 330 to match what is set on the hub jumpers.

Try exporting optimized on the main tab, I was having the same problem, test hardware worked but the sequencer wouldn't output, when I tried exporting optimized for some reason, the sequencer started to output as well.

It may also be that when you save a change to a sequence, the sequence output bulb WILL stop working (but testing the H/W will keep on working). You have to close LSP, then re-start LSP after saving a sequence to get the output bulb to work.

Good rule of thumb-if you make changes to the sequence always right click the audio area and optimize the entire sequence and save. And I agree to close and restart the program. When you playback with the output turned on it will warn you it has to optimize before playing which doesn't take long.

some of my sequences take 5-10 mins to optimize: -(

Get an alienware with a 3d hd screen and 12g of ram and fastest processor at the dell clearance site. Whoops the size of my head started blocking the tv screen.

I'm running LSP on a Quad Core, Windows 7, dedicated Graphics co-processor with 8Gig Ram and a solid state drive. Can't go much faster than that.

Still takes 5-10 mins to optimize my sequences :-(

I ran my LSP editing on Win7 x64, the fastest icore7 proc that I could get from Fry's, 32GB, and 4 fast SSDs in RAID 0...  and STILL my 13,000 channels were slower to sequence than I wanted. :)

Agreed, I'm running close to 5,000 channels and as the sequence is programmed, it gets slower and slower to optimize each sequence. They do run ok in the scheduler, it's just slow to optimize in the sequencer.

I don't believe that LSP takes advantage of the multiple cores, memory or the dedicated graphics co-processor, so I'm hoping the re-write David has done on LSP, will take advantage of those with the next release.

Still nothing after doing the optimization/rebooting/restarting the application.

Same thing works just fine when I do a test hardware but nothing during the sequence.

Right now all I have it one Aether setup so.....

LSP Machine to etherdongle to smart string hub to dmx out to Aether.

Aether is controlled starting on channel 33 (works fine on that channel in xlights and vixen).  Jumpers on the smart string hub are all set to 1

Are you starting playback from the beginning of the sequence? Is the channel off at the beginning of the sequence before you turn it on so the hardware sees a change of state? I don't remember did you say it worked from within testing the controller hardware in lsp? Have you tried using the scheduler to run it instead of the sequencer?

I just wanted to play with the aether so all I have is a slow ramp (RGB ramp) up from the start.

It works fine when I do a test hardware on the controller within the lsp sequencer.

It does not work in the scheduler.

It needs to be off at the beginning of the sequence. All channels must be off before the first timing mark so the hardware sees a change from off to on. Insert a timing mark and turn off the flood before the mark. Then optimize and try again.
