I just tried to program one of my new SSCv2 controllers and I could not get it to respond to the programming program.

I was using my e-dongle to program it.

When I replaced the SSCv2 with one of my SSCv1 I could program it no problem.

Do I need to update my SSC utility? I have not seen any comments around needing to upgrade the utility but SSCv2 does have new firmware.

Did you load the correct firmware for the SSCV2?

I have tried both V1 and V2 and the test firmware and NOTHING out.

If the SSC is working it should program right beside a v1 with the same software. No difference here. Make sure on all the usual suspects, solder joint missed, pigtail wired correctly, chips in correct direction and no bent pins. Chip is flashed successfully.

I have tried both V1 and V2 and the test firmware and NOTHING out.

Currently the SSC v2 has only one firmware that will work with it.

Both versions of the firmware for SSC v1 does NOT work with SSC v2

The Smart String Utility does with with SSC v2

I have now completed my third SSCv2

I have 20 SSCv1s working just fine.

I do not use the original pigtail because I have converted over to a 4 pin connector.

Here is two pictures showing the V1 on top.

I have tried 3 of the V2 configs and no sucess yet.

Verified all PIC code including trying the test code.

So far I have built 2 SCC V2 and used the programming/ setup utility with no problems.

I know it's got to be something simple.

I checked the voltage through the unit and it's12v in 12v out with correct polarity.

One think kind of interesting is that the 3.3v regulator is getting quite warm but I have not checked the V1 yet to see if it gets to the same temperature.

I am getting about a 3v output on the signal output as well.

I can program the PIC no problem.

I just can't get it to set the network address. No blinky.

Why did the 330 ohm resistor change to a 47 ohm resistor?

One other kinda strange thing is that after I shut down the Smart String Utility only the #1 pixel blinks a bluish color.

I'm sorry if this has been suggested, but make sure your flashing your pick with the v2 firmware not v1. Also make sure the right pic # is correct on the programer. I've done 10 so far with start addresses with no problems.

The pic is the same for both v1 and v2.

The sad thing is that my v1s I had absolutely NO problems at all.

This series of V2 has started off with a DUD.

If you looked at my pictures you can see the V2 up agains my V1. On the surface I find no physical differences. I have looked over the v1 PCB and v2 pcb and do not find any differencs in the circuit without diagraming it out. That may come next.

I have even tried my p-dongle instead without any success.

I'll buildup another one tomorrow and see if the results is the same I have 27 more to work with.  ;D

Try downloading the hex file again in case you got a corrupt file. It has to be something like this.

SSCv2 compatibility with SSCv1 programming utility?

Are you sure the string is connected properly. If I remember correctly, I get one blue pixel when I connect the wrong end...

Just FYI they are the same strings I use for my mega tree. Remember I said my V1 SSCs run these same strings and connect to the same hub and work as advertised.

RJ,

I downloaded the code again, rechecked the checksum code and it was still the same as in the wiki.

Programmed one of my new SSCv2s again. The Pic Kit 3 said it was programmed and the checksum matched.

Tried to program it with the utility. The flashing pixel 1 happened again after stopping the utility.

Then I went back to recheck the programming and this time the Pickit programmer could not detecct a device.

This has now happened to two SSCv2s.

I will pull the PIC from the SSCv2 and try it in my SSCv1 tomorrow to see if something has happened to it.

If it has died then I will have to delve deeper into what is going wrong.

Any other diagnostic ideas would be appreciated.

The firmware is different between the 2 versions. Also I had one that initially wouldn't flash the string white and it turned out to be very fine solder splatter that I could see with my magnifying visor.
