Re Programming PicKit 3
« on: March 07, 2011, »
Well finally got my lat back ordered item from Mouser today to assemble my SSR4 and hooked up the new  PicKit3 (off Ebay) to program the chip and come to find out error code reads  ???

PK3Err0038: Failed to initialize PICkit 3.

Failed to properly connect to PICkit 3

pretty common it seems.  Most likely, the firmware has been corrupted.   <md..  So I have to put off finishing until I can get it reprogrammed.  Anyone, up for it?  Instructions:  http://www.microchip.com/stellent/idcplg?IdcService=SS_GET_PAGE&nodeId=2894&param=en550008

mine gave that error at first. i was disappointed at first, until i either unplugged it, and re connected it. or i restarted the computer. (or both)  then then mine started working.
it's worth a shot

I would reprogram your pickit, I'm just afraid to open the thing. I looked at mine and figured i'd break the plastic.
plus, if you can find someone close to California (I'm in PA).

worst case scenario, Microchip can help you as well. (especially, since it's new {i think})

Here is a link to microchip on this issue or at least I think it is. Here is how I got to the thread.

It seems the PICKit 3 needs to be re-flashed. I hope I do not encounter this it seems like a pain. I would contact Microchip support as suggested. It might help to read the Microchip forums threads on this issue. Some folks think it is related to Windows 7, but no confirmation from what I have read.

Yes, it is brand new from Joshua Systems on EBay.  Yes, I have tried a new cord.  I am running Vista and I have been reading and trying what is recommended.   I unfortunately don't have a back-up programmer, guess I will get one.

I sent a message to Joshua to see what they can or will do about this since so many of us get these from him it will be interesting to see what customer service they offer.
