Title: How about $1.8 a node?
Post by: Night Owl on December 13, 2010,
I saw this on Adafruit and it really shows how much of a deal the Smart Strings are.  $45 for 25 lights.  Data is shifted from one light to the next, which means they are not individually addressable.

These LEDs claim to be weather proof but really require some work to be completly weather proof as the water gets in between the cables and the moulding is too soft. There is a better offering that i have used that hasnt given me any issues as of yet with the rain and that is http://www.aliexpress.com/fm-store/701799/209889132-320677241/12mm-8mm-led-pixel-RGB-led-channel-lettet-waterproof-UV-cable-WS2801IC-256-level-gray-scale.html which are more around the 70 cent mark

I have received 3 different versions of those pixels from Ray on 3 different orders.  One style of the 3 looked to be pretty good as far as waterproofing, the others not so much.  Also the distance between pixels hasn't been consistent.
