TeamSpeak Chat
« on: December 04, 2012, »
Just a silly question.

How many people use this and is it very easy to use?
As I am not sure if it can be used when trying to help another member through a problem they are having or is there set times that it is used?

Thanks

Steve

It's easy to use and easy to setup.

It's used HEAVILY in role playing games and first person shooters.

The basics are, need a server to run it (your computer can be the server) have your ports opened up on your router.  You can have others host it too.

I cannot speak to how effective it would be for support.

So to help someone that does not want to use phone, you would recommend the regular chat on homepage or any other suggestions?

If you are talking about the TeamSpeak link here, it is easy to use.  The one here works on VER 2 of teamspeak, no the current version 3.  You do not need a server to use the one here.  RJ has already set uo the server.  Once the client software (VER 2) is installed on the PC, just click the teamspeak link on the bottom of the main page here and it will start up and link the the DLA teamspeak server.  The person that you are helping simply does the same thing and you are good to go.  You will need to set it up to work with your hardware and configure it on how to talk but both are simple to do.  Another cool thing about it is that others in the site can see you there and join in which comes in handy sometimes when helping someone with issues.  Teamspeak is open for anyone to use most of the time and on the rare occasion that it's being used for momething else, messages are posted about it.

The wiki software page has steps to setup to use DLA teamspeak

To answer your question. RJ setup teamspeak as away to help people troubleshoot their hardware. It works well (especially when RJ is the one doing the trouble shooting LOL)

This is great news and a tool that I have never used.
Is it used a lot or is it something a lot of people are unaware of?
So when people are on then it would show that at the bottom of the home page?

Thanks

Steve

It varies as far as the use of it. At times of the year there will be folks in it nightly and other times (getting shows up and running, vacation, too nice outside to be on the computer) its unused.

Try it you might like it

Heck I might even join in some nights (not sure if that is a good or bad thing)
