4th of July ideas
« on: January 31, 2013, »
Looking for 4th of July ideas to help get up to speed on light animation before the big Halloween and Christmas extravaganzas.  Would love to create some elements that I could reuse in the H/C shows.  Doing LEDs and considering RGB smart or dumb element(s).  Have two LE boxes coming and would consider SSC/DSC controller for RGB element.

And help is appreciated!   <pop..

Thanks,
Chris

Got one. This will take some brain storming.

Take some large size cloth fill it up with SSC nodes.

Now take the node filled cloth and make it move like a flag blowing in the wind.
But make it so you can stop the waving and straiten it out.

This way using it as a flag or a flat screen.

I know you can also make it move like it is waving.

But the effect would be different it you could make the cloth move.
What you don't know. Can hurt you.

If you're using RGB, consider developing show elements that can be used for more than one holiday.  RGB arches and RGB mega trees can be used for any holiday.  We had rain in the Denver area last 4th of July.  We were in the middle of testing Nutcracker so we put together a quick patriotic sequence to substitute for the lack of fireworks.  I think I took a video - I'll post the link if I can find it.

Other 4th ideas:
Fireworks - use multis or RGB
Stars
Uncle Sam - re-purposed nutcrackers or animated face

Just some thoughts.

My RGB matrix wall will have enough resolution for flag graphics and fireworks. It will be 10ft wide, 7ft tall, and fit just inside my garage door frame. Ray Wu is busy sending my pixels now.

The plan is horizontal bars with spacers between bars and all-thread holding together groups of 6 bars. 4 sets of bars, so 24 lines of resolution, 40 pixels across. Meant to be viewed from 30+ feet. Using 8 SSCs to drive it.

Halloween, July 4th, Christmas (at least).

Sittinguphigh,

There exists something called 'star cloth' that already exists from China.  It is basically as you describe "cloth embedded with RGB LEDs".  However, all the star cloth I have seen is large factor (usually yards wide and 10' tall) and all the RGBs are single controlled (aka like a string of what we call RGB dumb strings) which means that if you set a color or dimming factor for each color, it will be done by EVERY pixel in the cloth.

That's cool kurt. Like to smart string idea. Multi use.

Hey you can take your tree and hook the all the lines to two strait supports top and bottom.
This would give you a double use for your tree.

Would be a wide screen effect. Wouldn't take that much time or money.

You have the smart strings just hook them you to a different frame.
