LE Version 5 - No Display / No Self Test
« on: July 18, 2012, »
I have a newly built LE Version 5. The 3.3 and 5.0 light up and when I press the select button channel 16 will light. I have programmed the chip, but there is no display and no self test. I have checked the solder joints and and they seem to be okay, but I did have a hard time soldering the middle leg of the Triacs and these joints leave a lot to be desired. I have power to both sides of the boards.  I have the little do hickeys on for "terminate" and the one for "Remove for wireless." I am not using wireless.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Danny

Just a hunch, but do you have the chip facing the right way?

The best thing you can do is upload a picture of the front and the back of your LE. It is amazing how our eyes can miss the simplest mistake. Definitely make sure that each of your chips is in the correct orientation.

Yes, I believe all the chips are facing the right way.

I will upload pictures later today.

Thank you,

Danny

what about:

  • Take the 2700pf cap.  Find the location for this and install it.  On some of these capacitors, the outer yellow epoxy is coating the top of the leads.  Make sure that the yellow portion is not stuck inside the hole on the board; the part of the lead that goes into the hole must be silver.  It is OK if the cap is not flush with the board when you install it.
I had one too close to the board once....

I have attached pictures front and back. FYI, on the back, on the 28 pin chip, the white spot was a piece of fuzz, I removed it.

Your LED numbers are in upside down.  The decimal should be in the lower right corner, not the upper left.

Glad that was the only problem.  Makes it a realtively easy fix.

And really does make Grant's point that a photo is the best thing help diagnose problems, because the extra set(s) of eyes really can help spot something like that very easily.
