As part of the Licensing deal I made with Minleon on the Express they will make specials for DLA members from time to time. Think of it as a thank you for voting to allow them to license the units.

Complete units case and cables ready to use.
$159 limited to the first 100 controllers sold to diy light animation users.

That is one clean looking design.

+1
since these are licensed, can they be used in a commercial setting?

They do not have limits on this on their version.

I was thinking the same thing this morning as well, just the right size, black so it dissappears better than our large CG1500 enclosures.
I emailed them to inquiry on the case and power cables. Also asked when they may start selling light strings on the site.

The sizing is the same. Since they were design custom cases with a power switch I asked them to offer them separate for this reason. The pcbs are the same size and are suppose to fit.

The PCBs fit, but the holes don't line up with the screw studs in the case. Its an easy mod to drill a new hole.
I liked the cases so much that I made a last minute decision to switch to them (from CG1500s), Ron Duszak (Events Done Bright, Minleon contact) was able to get a bunch drop shipped to me from China..had them in less than a week.
There are a few little design tweaks that could be done to that case to make it even better, but even as is, its a definite winner for using with LEs.
Spray painted green, they blend in nicely with their surroundings..

just me or is the prod link broken?
did they pull 100 already?

Where these older PCBs or the latest ones which fit the new CG1500. The Newer ones should fit it.

Not sure they may have sold the 100 they reserved already.

Most from this spring's co-op, but all of them, version 5. Are there differences in the hole placement within that design of board? I've not had any that have matched thus far.

Still open at $159 and thanks for the link update Ryan. And sorry for any inconvenience if anyone had tried to order.
Still time to arrive by the weekend!!
-
this is what they look like on alignment of holes with version 5 board
-
I'm seeing two different mounting hole layouts in the cases..one allows one hole to line up, another needs to be drilled, and then the one like Sabie has shown, and it needs two holes drilled.
Again, I want to say, it is a small effort for a great case.

Does anyone know if the case alone comes with the pigtails? It shows on a picture on their website of the case with pigtails for $25 plus shipping.
-
All of the 25 dollar cases I ordered were case only, no pigtails.
-
i ordered 6 and 3 of the boxes came with pigtails talking to them today they appear to want to make it right but i have to call tomorrow to make sure
-
Sabie
did you get an answer saying the boxes should or should not have pigtails?
-
he is on vacation i will wait till he gets back and see if we can work this out
-
nice deal but the drop-shipping fees... not so much
-
Anyone get an answer back on the pigtails?
-
anyone ever get an answer of should the case come with pigtails or not?

That link has stopped working as well.

Just from looking at the site I would say that the case does NOT come with the plugs. When you look at the completed unit, it is $25 more than if you were to buy the board and case separately. That almost never happens unless the completed unit comes with more parts which in this case, is probably the input and output power cords.
-
So I've purchased a completed unit with case and a completed unit without case (I haven't ordered just a case)
In both of those scenarios, we got attached SP1 plugs.
As a side note - they have been working great and worked identically to the expresses! I suppose the ultimate compliment is that I was able to toss them in the yard and forget about them.

I suffer from early stages of Parkinsons, with a significant tremor in my natural right hand, so this might be a blessing for me; however, I have to watch my pennies. Counting board, shipping, case, wires, plugs, etc. needed to build my own LE, how much am I really going to save over the $159 Minleon complete box if I choose the DIY route?
-
Typically in an LE Coop, you can pick the board and BOM up for around $70 at most. Case is around $15, plus the cost of shipping plus the cost of the cords to attach to the LE. The shipping and cords negate themselves since Minleon would charge for shipping and you still provide your own cords. So DIY = ~$85 vx. Minleon at $159. Course, you also have the fun of soldering and possibly making mistakes with the DIY route, but that's half the fun of this hobby for me! Hope that helps!

Thanks, it does. Because of the tremors in my right hand/arm, I am now 99% left-handed, so not too sure about solderiing critical components...sure wish I could!

It looks like Minleon has the Express prebuilt board (no case or leads) on sale for $109. Might be an excellent buy, especially if you are thinking that you might need a controller in any type of public/commercial display or you just don't feel like building one yourself.

And another drop to $99 at this rate they may end up cheaper than the coop (just kidding) :)

The $99.00 gets you the assembled board and 16 pigtails. Case is 25.00. You can have a commercial controller for with the case and pigtails for $143.62 shipped (shipping was $19.62).
The shipping seems a little high when you first look at it but if you figure what shipping is on the coops, what you pay to get the cases shipped and, if you buy the pigtails shipped, it is about what you are paying them to drop ship it to you.
Unfortunately for them I like to (and still am able too) build my own equipment.
For someone looking for a mostly assembled controller it looks like a deal.

I really, really looked at doing that too. But in the end I figured I could get 3 le's for the price of two if I soldered them myself and I like several here, enjoy building them as much as using them.

I just popped on 2 of them...my first equipment purchase! (dear God, what am I getting myself into!) <fp.
Shipping on 2 w/pigtails was $40 :o

One of the most addictive hobbies in the world. LOL :) :) :)

Still including free pigtails with controllers at $99 built and tested!
