Title: Whats the diffrence with Smart Strings.
Post by: JamesElliot on January 04, 2013,
Hi all,

I'm interested in rebuilding my mega tree using smart strings and have been looking for competitive suppliers.
The Wiki recommends

http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/50-node-LED-pixel-string-DC12V-input-new-model-IP68-TM1804IC/701799_495657175.html?_componentAcceptorEnabled_=false

I have found the following and wondered if anybody new if they where any good and if they worked with the system
http://scottled.en.alibaba.com/product/683540524-214346094/TM1829_LED_pixel_node_50node_a_string_DC5V_input_led_pixel_light_IP67.html?edm_src=sys&edm_type=fdbk&edm_grp=0&edm_cta=read_msg&edm_time=realtime&edm_ver=e (http://scottled.en.alibaba.com/product/683540524-214346094/TM1829_LED_pixel_node_50node_a_string_DC5V_input_led_pixel_light_IP67.html?edm_src=sys&edm_type=fdbk&edm_grp=0&edm_cta=read_msg&edm_time=realtime&edm_ver=e)

Or would this be better?
http://scottled.en.alibaba.com/product/659589485-214500504/50node_a_string_DC5V_input_led_pixel_light_12MM_TM1804_LED_pixel_node_IP67.html (http://scottled.en.alibaba.com/product/659589485-214500504/50node_a_string_DC5V_input_led_pixel_light_12MM_TM1804_LED_pixel_node_IP67.html)

Thanks in advance!

First off if you see a string that says +5v it's not a compatible smart string for SSCs. I'ts probably a DMX dumb RGB string.

If you are going to use smart strings equipment it's best to stick with what is listed on the WIKI or if you are technical enough to get samples and test them before buying quantities.

Even if they are dumb strings, 5V is also not compatable with the DSC.  Our smart and dumb strings are all 12V.

The ones on the wiki are also ip68. My luck with ip67 nodes is only so so when left in the rain for 4 weeks...

The products and Ray Wu as the vendor have been tested, vetted, and come highly recommended.  They were selected to be a cost effective product for DIYers.  Personally I think trying to find a "cheaper" alternative is wasting time that could be better spent working on a display.  Nothing wrong with looking for new stuff, but just looking for cheaper is just another path to you get what you pay for.
