« on: January 09, 2013, »
After doing a search on here  trying to find out really finding an answer i figure i would ask the masses.  Is there any test firmware for the v2 ssc?  If so where can i download a copy.

no. no ssc v2 test fw yet.

your best bet is to use an old ssc v1 unit for burn-ins, or upgrade your ssc v2 to ssc v3 and then you'll have the test fw.

I doubt that you will ever see any V2 test firmware.  With all of the things that RJ has to do, I really doubt that he has the time to work on it and with the mod available for it and the Ver 1, why bother.

The SSC v2 should be modded to V3 and there is test firmware for it.

I thought of doing that, as anxious as i am to get started but i dont have an etherdongle to be able to run and test the ssc's and lights.

You don't need an etherdongle, just a usb dongle and a hub

Yep, dongle just needs to be flashed for pixelnet.  That said, I really think it is handy to have at least one dedicated ssc with test firmware on it for burn ins and fooling around.  I actually enjoyed just letting the test firmware run the color changes with the lights.

Do not be scared of the mod, it is simple and rat shack has the resistors for like $1.  For the cut, I prefer some black tape to cover nearby traces and use a cutoff wheel and dremel.
Sam, who is happy he flashed his etherdongle with newest firmware!

i converted 2 of the 11 ssc's i already built over to v3 with plans to work on the rest this weekend.  I've been using a dremel with a small engraving bit i had to cut the trace.   It seems to work very well with my steady hands.

I got them converted, loaded the test firmware, connected up to my hub and then there was beautiful smart string light.

I would if I had one of those,  but 2013 will be my first year.  Also I'm planning to do more than 98% of my display in Smart or dumb strings and at my last channel count i would blow past one pixelnet universe before i got everything done.

Thanks again for everyone's help!
